Md Awards 2009

I am Bored

Recommended Posts

Yes, again, why DEDICATE an award to someone that did something that did not lasted at least 1 year ? something that vanished with the player identity ? And vanished at the beginning of this year, not the ending ..at least so you can say 'this year'

Outstanding work is osmething that lasts for more then 1 year, and in it's original form...but i might be wrong at this..as my standards are very exigent :P

I agree with Akasha on this. There are people who try or do outstanding work within MD, that still carries on. Let's face it, dojo is dead (replaced by the Sparring Grounds with new rules, members, advisors etc) and the Univercity has been quite for many many months. This is not a personal attack to Calyx, I enjoyed the character in and out of MD, but that does not confuse my judgement on these matters. Calyx did something in MD while she was here and got rewarded for it. Dedicate it to her is just too much for me. Of all people, I think it is Mur who has done something worth dedicated to him otherwise we wouldn't even be here discussing about MD Awards, for without him there would not be any MD thus no awards. Just my two cents here.

Give the award to any the people deem worthy of having but at least do dedicate it to someone who has done some really hard work on this subject. Not just one year, but four so far and perhaps a little more.

That's 18 awards there currently, which is 2 more than the 16 last year.

Should I not log in till this is over? I'm 80 AD atm xD

Awards I'd not agree with:
The Bob Award and Best Drunkard. Because both of them are to specified and already covered by best Role Player. I think all the others are general enough through.

EDIT: When's the AD's measured? And why 80? I'd say 100 :D

Link to post

It's intentionally Best Quest. Quester can be added as well, but apart from quest creators, nobody would be able to vote on it really, as they wouldnt know.

The AD is that cos i havent changed it from last awards, if people want the age to change then i dont mind too much.

As a note, i havent really evaluated if those are good or bad ideas, just listed the suggested ones which hadnt been rejected by other people.

LE: At this point, could a couple people message me if they want to help collect votes, that doesnt mean replying in this thread, it actually means pming me. Vote collecters cannot vote themselves. Having more than one vote collector means that there's not going to be any tampering of the votes. Votes should be sent to all, except if one is one of the judges, they would then not be messaged.

Unless there are any altarations/objections to that?

Yeah, I agree with Obs: The Bob Award is too exclusive and RP related (and we already have that). Not to mention it discriminates :D. Why not a Best Anti-Bob Award?
Most Influential (as in the one who had influenza most of this year? :P) is not that good also since it can be interpreted in sooo many ways.
The rest...I think they are ok.

Link to post

lol, Bob award is stated as being both for and against bob :D

Since it's people voting, then it'd be up to them what counts as influential, so i was thinking that broad interpretation would be a good thing, if you disagree, suggest ones to cover each area within it?

If people still dont want these, i'll remove

Link to post

It says "protecting or trying to attack bob", still, it's only that exclusive group of RP which is already covered by best RP award... We could have a dozens of fight rewards and RP awards if these awards come through that would be of the same "importance". And I'd greatly appreciate it if the age thing is stretched to 100... Not only because it'd save me from not logging onto observer on next couple of days (and in the process creating an uber MP3/4 :D) but because there is so few new players around, currently the entire tutorial etc. is being reworked because too few stay and the gates have been closed for a while. 20-80 might become 10-120 or even more... Unless someone has a severe grounded objection to that.

I agree with Observer on the Rookie of the Year.

I have 79 active days right now.. (not saying I will get nominated or something like that) and I know some people that have active days (I guess) ranging from 80-100 that would make great nominees! :D

It's intentionally Best Quest. Quester can be added as well, but apart from quest creators, nobody would be able to vote on it really, as they wouldnt know.[/quote]
Is that really a problem? The same applies for other categories. The problem is you only know about your own quests and that's only if they passed the first stage, not if they got stuck while reading the Q page. I admit, sometimes I read a Q page and have no idea what it is about and what to do next. I kept scores for people who did my quests, so if any were nominated I know who to vote for.

Does this work with nominations, and does everybody get to nominate everybody except their alts?

@dst: please don't confuse me with Lifeline.

Like i said, Quester can be added as well, i have no objection to it.
As a side note, just because you kept scores doesnt mean others did...

Each person would be able to vote for one person per category, no alts are allowed to vote.

best drunkard? eh? since when alcoholics are to be praised? doesnt it gives.. a bad image of society?
[/quote]

Best drunkard, as in tar 'n feather him and show him to the world, with a big ''WRONG'' sign tied on his back.
--
Now, seriously, I proposed the drunkard section without knowing anyone would take it seriously.
Since it was taken, I'll stick with it. Much of the community action happens in pubs, and such character would shouw a society as it is, not a cosmeticized face of a world that cannot or would not accept consequences for what those living in it do.

It is wrong to praise alcoholism, yet it would be wronger to close eyes and pretend that doesn`t happen.

Well, I believe everyone should have the same chances in winning anything, even if they did win the same thing before.
If it`s all about votes, then it should be a chance for anyone.
If there`s gonna be a jury, then those who won before should be left out, like the Nobel Prize.

If you want chewy, we can add a category "Best veteran (age 700+)"But I'm afraid mur would wipe the floor with you... :P

i just feel that most annoying player and worst alt whatever are awards specifically designed for them, which seems a little counter productive to the whole award process, but it seems no one else thinks that so ignore me

That is why I proposed the idea of eliminating any previous winners from attaining yet another trophy for having accomplished or contributed little. Categories such as "Least Convincing Alt" and "Most Annoying" were made specifically for two players and they are the ones who will win each time.

You are completely correct in that "achievements" such as these should not be honored and should be removed from the pool of possible nominations and awards.

As to the vote collectors being restricted from voting, I do not believe that would be necessary. If [i]all[/i] the votes cast are sent to each vote collector, then the chance of there being voting irregularities is reduced or eliminated. Even in other types of elections, poll workers are allowed to vote and I see no reason for it to be different here. With the low census that Magic Duel has at this time, each vote matters that much more.

As far as the nominations go, as happened last year, one cannot nominate any of their own characters; all nominations must come from another with a complete disqualification penalty for those who choose to try to circumvent this rule.

A similar rule should be observed for those who wish to vote multiple times from various accounts, eliminating their own chance for an award, any future award, and maybe even the potential publication of the names of all the associated accounts.

As you can see, they're striped out in grido's post ;) aka: They're no longer there.

And "best drunkard" imo still WAY to specific, if it's going trough I want categories like "best jester" "best rit" "most creative rit" "strongest fighter"(yes, very different from best fighter) "best Knight of the Bell" "best clown" "Best seeker of enlightenment" "best CoE" "best observer" (:P)"best archivist" "most helpful GGG trainer" "best king/queen" "worst fighter" "best hider" I'd say, all of those have roughly the same amount of "coverage" slightly less or a lot more.

Some unexpected bits and pieces came up so I wasn't able to release this when intended, however here it is, I have changed the schedule to reflect a delay.

By a difference of one, Most Improved Player was added as a new category, whilst retaining Rookie of the Year. So below is a list of categories, please go ahead and nominate accordingly!

Please be aware of the following when Nominating:
      - You may not nominate those who belong to the same land as yourself (this not only means hard-coded, but also those people considered part of certain lands). "This is an MD awards event, if a person deserves one of the awards, it is on the global level, not on local level, however capable the person is, which justifies the ban of the land nominations , possibly votes too". If you note nominations slipping through this, please let an organiser know.
      - There will be a minimum of 3 players nominated for each category, no maximum.
      - Past winners will be allowed to be nominated again
      - You may only nominate one person per category. If you nominate multiple people, none will be added.
      - You may not nominate yourself, or another account you play.
      - No editing posts in the nomination thread - purely because I'll potentially get confused.
      - To be nominated a player must be active, they must have had an observable presence within/throughout the year.

      Adventuring Award
For the person most dedicated, or who perseveres most at quests. Not necessarily for completing, or winning the most.
      - AmberRune [Rophs]
      - Asthir [Syrian]
      - Vladan [Aethon]

      Best Beautification
Given for the highest quality of artistic contributions given to beautify the realm, be it personification of papers, contribution to avatar gallery, or item depiction.
      - gonzalocsdf [MaGoHi, dst, Dark Demon]
      - MaGoHi [AmberRune]
      - Neno Veliki [Aethon]

      Champion Fighter
For the person considered to be the best fighter in the realm, this does not necessarily have to be the strongest fighter in the realm, but the one that uses the combat system to the best effect.
      - Asthir [Aeoshattr, MaGoHi, Dark Demon]
      - Clock Master [Sunfire]
      - Eon [Chewett]
      - Fang Archbane [Ars Alchemy]
      - Sunfire [Aethon]

      Fossil of the year
For the player who has been around so long they have turned into a fossil. The player must be visibly active over the past year, and on the veterans list in game.
      - dst [Jubaris]
      - Lintara [Aethon]
      - Miq [Sunfire]
      - No one [dst]
      - Sunfire [Dark Demon]

      Helper of the Year
For the player deemed to have been the most helpful. The area of helpfulness the player focusses on can vary. The voter should realise that even though they may not get on with, or have been helped by one of the nominees, this does not mean that the player is not indeed helpful.
      - Asthir [dst]
      - Sunfire [Syrian]
      - Syrian [Aethon]

      Most Addicted

      - Aethon [Rophs]
      - Asthir [Jubaris]
      - MaGoHi [Dark Demon]
      - Nadrolski [AmberRune]
      - Syrian [Aethon]

      Most Improved Player
The player that the community things has grown the most in the past year. This can be a rookie who set feet on the ground quickly and got walkin' or an oldie who had been inactive but picked up a lot of momentum and did some cool things.

      Most Popular

      - Neno Veliki [AmberRune]
      - Zleiphneir [Aeoshattr]

      Pre-eminent Role Player
For the player deemed to Role Play the best. The player does not have to stay in character all the time to win this award (though it may help), rather when they do role play it is to the highest standard - this does usually go in hand with remaining in character.
      - Aeoshattr [Aethon]
      - Aethon [Syrian]
      - Azull [Jubaris]
      - Klawdees [Rophs]
      - Rophs [AmberRune]

      Prime Quest
For the player seen as creating the best quest over the past year. Just because a voter did not manage to complete the quest, does not mean it was a bad quest necessarily, the voter is asked to take this into account when voting.
      - Assira the Black - Dance Contest [Aeoshattr]
      - Asthir -  Heat Dumping, Tag War, Tag [dst]
      - WittyLeWat - Imagination Quest [Syrian]

It. Is. Time. The year has rolled around once more and it is time to think about what everyone has done over the past year and who deserves special merit in certain categories.

I asked around previously if anyone wanted to run these awards as there have been timing issues the previous couple of years (primarily down to myself). Unfortunately only the one person stepped forward to offer their services, however because of a few different factors (such as time scale) they have now opted to not run it this year, but may in the future. They have also opted not to assist in running this - as a result I am looking for two more people to aid the running of the awards as necessary, which will definitely involve counting votes in the few days before the ceremony itself, so please make sure you are available for that, even if nothing else.
If you would like to assist in these awards, please PM me.

For those newer amongst us that are unaware - we hold these MD Awards at the end of each year and whilst the organiser (that's me) sets time scales and prompts here and there along the line, all the decisions are down to you, the community. There will be a time for refining the current rules, picking the categories themselves, then who should be eligible for voting on, before the voting itself occurs, and so long as you have a forum account you can directly participate in all of it.

The timeline as proposed by me is below, I have allowed approximately 10 days for each segment which should hopefully be sufficient time, along with an intentional gap between nominees being finalised and the voting beginning to allow for setting up the voting page. Additionally an intentional gap is left between voting ending and the Ceremony to give time for the votes to be counted.

      Schedule of Events:

Friday 30th October - It Begins (Rules Start) Here
Sunday 1st November - Categories Start Here
Monday 9th November - Rules End
Friday 20th November - Categories End
Saturday 21st Monday 23rd November - Nominees Starts Here
Tuesday 1st Wednesday 2nd December - Nominees Ends
Friday 4th Sunday 6th December - Voting Begins
Monday 14th Wednesday 16th December - Voting Ends
Friday 18th December - MD Awards Ceremony

The ceremony date is not yet fixed, any point between then and Thursday December 24th would be acceptable for me currently, however over that weekend would be preferred. The time of the awards is yet to be set, please discuss it in this thread. The time date should be determined within the same period as the rules.

I would like to commission an artist to draw pictures for the medal items given out, please get in touch if you feel you would have time available to do this. You would have from when the categories have been finalised, 21st Nov, until roughly when the voting begins on 4th Dec - this holds some flexibility though. We can negotiate some compensation for your efforts if you would like some, certainly I can sort something out for you.

For each segment I will list how it stood last year, so for this thread I list last year's rules below. It is up to you lot to decide which rules should stay or go, which might need to be modified, and if any new ones should be introduced.

[log=Rules]- The previous categories will be listed in a thread, and players can then argue for different ones to be added/removed - if players agree, then it will be so.
      - Certain categories have relevant restrictions on them, these can be changed/created/removed, but only prior to nominations opening.

      - There will be 3 people counting votes and organising this. These people will not be able to be nominated, however they are able to vote.
      - You may not nominate those who belong to the same land as yourself (this not only means hard-coded, but also those people considered part of certain lands). "This is an MD awards event, if a person deserves one of the awards, it is on the global level, not on local level, however capable the person is, which justifies the ban of the land nominations , possibly votes too".* If you note nominations slipping through this, please let an organiser know.

      - We will ideally use the in game voting system.
      - There's no restriction on voting for those of the same land.
      - There will be no restriction on the amount of voters, there will however be a limited timeframe to vote in as specified in the outline.
      - You do not have to vote in each category (though it's preferable).
      - If you vote for yourself in anything, all your votes will be discounted.
      - If players that have voted are detected as alts of each other, all associated votes will be discounted. (If you have multiple accounts, you're fine, but only vote once per person please), they will also be disqualified from any nominations your accounts may have.
      - Players under 20 AD will be unable to vote.

I can't think of any other particular details currently, please ask if you think I've missed anything (in addition to discussing various points). If you are against any aspect with how it's set to run, please raise it and suggest alternatives.

*[log= Associated Land Definition] Associated to a land includes being part of an alliance or a citizen, as well as those on temporary absence from them, but is not exclusive to just that mechanical association. It also extends to a player who feels they belong to a certain land, or who through largely exclusive association or actions is viewed as of a certain land. Those who since those actions visibly associate themselves with another land would then no longer be thought of as with the former.
Alliance hoppers, or those that take alliances without intended association with the land the new alliance is a part of are exceptions and will be treated based on perception, rather than mechanical.[/log][/log](The above is mostly copied from last year, so there may be some inaccuraces - please point them out)

You will find below the list of categories that was used for the MD Awards 2014, feel free to Add, remove, or modify any of those listed. I will strike out any that are decided to be removed from the list.
New categories are also encouraged, and will get added to the list if there's no/negligible objections to it and multiple people want it included. This is the purpose of the thread, to come up with a final list of categories, remove and add as you decide, I'll just edit the list every so often.

As you're doing these, please be aware of this thread as we are running the general rules concurrently with these discussions.

Yes, I realise it's only October and thinking about Christmas festivities is weird at this time of year...

      ---

To avoid issues like has happened in previous years, I would like someone to primarily run the event this year, I would of course be on hand as needed including any vote counting that may be necessary.

You would need to have been around a year or more, having been here for at least one previous awards ceremony.

In terms of responsibilities, you would need to:
      - Open threads at appropriate moments to indicate opening of the various stages of the votes.
      - Arrange for other people to collect and count votes.
      - Organise the voting itself (whether that be liaising with Chew, or arranging alternative voting methods).
      - Arrange for Medal Items to be created and distributed (preferably including artwork).

I will of course do this if nobody else steps forward, but it would be a refreshing change to give someone else a go :)

So, the year has rolled around once more, and so we once again have our MD Awards.

Currently it will be Rophs and myself organising, along with a third person. If you want to help out please drop either of us a message, ideally you should have been to at least one previous awards.
Ailith, dst and myself will be hosting this year.

Discussion wise, I have already had feedback telling me to be more organised with it this year, including handing out the trophies during the ceremony itself, so I shall arrange for that to happen, medal boxes also already have the 2014 md award ready on it so they can also be given out at the time. Rophs is going to help me with the timings and things not getting delayed. Please let us know of any other issues you found last year in the hopes that they can be overcome on this one.

All aspects of the awards are up for discussion up until the point each part begins. The exact categories and nominees will be discussed in separate threads to this, but the total amount of categories or min/max nominees for each category might be discussed here.
The date and time of the ceremony should also be discussed here, I have currently proposed it to be just after Christmas, on the 28th December.

      Information relating to how the awards will run as it currently stands;
      [spoiler]
      - There will be a maximum of 10 categories.
      - The previous categories will be listed in a thread, and players can then argue for different ones to be added/removed - if players agree, then it will be so.

      - There will be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 players nominated for each category.
      - Past winners will be allowed to be nominated again, however, if there are more than 5 names nominated when it closes, those will be the first removed.
      - Mur cannot be nominated (sorry Mur), and Chewett cannot be nominated for Top Techy (or another award along the same lines).
      - Previous Fossil (or a similar award if that does not exist this year) winners, cannot win again.
      - You may only nominate one person per category. If you nominate multiple people, none will be added.
      - You may not nominate yourself, or another account you play.
      - No editing posts in the nomination thread - purely because I'll potentially get confused.

      - We will ideally use the in game voting system.
      - There's no restriction on voting for those of the same land.
      - There will be no restriction on the amount of voters, there will however be a limited timeframe to vote in - this will be 11 days.

      [spoiler]
Associated to a land includes being part of an alliance or a citizen, as well as those on temporary absence from them, but is not exclusive to just that mechanical association. It also extends to a player who feels they belong to a certain land, or who through largely exclusive association or actions is viewed as of a certain land. Those who since those actions visibly associate themselves with another land would then no longer be thought of as with the former.
Alliance hoppers, or those that take alliances without intended association with the land the new alliance is a part of are exceptions and will be treated based on perception, rather than mechanical.

(The above is mostly copied from last year, so there may be some inaccuraces - please point them out)

Sun 7th December - Nominations close
Wed 10th December - Voting opens
