Sephirah Caelum reacted to awiiya in Analysis of Council Approval Poll
General Approval Rating:

36.67% approval
31.67% neutral
31.67% disapproval

Split even on the strong opinions - 10 votes for each. The largest portion by far is the neutral at 19 votes. As far as spread goes - every other category received about 10 votes (+-2). This gives the Council a slight positive approval rating (by 3 votes).

Fairness Rating:

23.33% fair
38.33% neutral
38.34% unfair

Unlike the general approval, more people seemed to think that the Council was at times unfair to the people of MD. A quarter of voters disagree with the proposition that the Council is fair. The disagree outnumbered the agree by a large margin (12), while the strongly disagreed outnumbered the strongly agree just slightly (2). Still a bit more than a third of voters have no opinion about the Council's fairness.

Trust Rating:

20.00% trust
36.67% neutral
43.33% distrust

This is a mostly negative result - with only 5 voters agreeing and 7 strongly agreeing that they trust the Council. While again a third responded neutrally, 17 voters disagreed and 9 voters strongly distrusted the Council. The majority of responders to the poll find that they cannot completely trust the Council - despite perhaps approving of being neutral in the approval rating.

Growth and Health Rating:

28.33% promotes growth
23.33% neutral
48.33% does not promote growth

This is the most negative result of the four questions, and the most polarizing (only about a quarter responded neutrally). Almost half of poll responders think that the Council does not promote the growth of the Realm - but they also may think that the Council doesn't particularly impedes growth either. This question also resulted in the largest number of strong responses (12 people strongly disagreed) in all four questions.

General Analysis and Suggestions:

While a 36% approval rating is nothing to celebrate, the most worrying results are the last two questions, especially the trust rating. The Council may not be responsible for growing the Realm (perhaps that should be the work of us), but it should inspire trust. This lack of trust may come about as response to their anonymity or lack of updates as to exactly they're working on. The fairness rating may also reflect the last few public decisions - ZenTao, Fang - that generated more negativity as to the harsh, act-first-ask-later attitude taken by the Council.

As for ways to improve - there's already a forum topic dedicated to ways in which the Council could do a better job. From this poll, it seems that the Council should focus on inspiring more trust and handling situations with a bit more tact.

People especially feel cheated when a forum is opened to gauge public opinion, and then the Council does not accept the majority opinion. If the Council is going to go ahead and decide themselves, what's the point of asking the public's opinion? It can feel that the Council asked for opinion just to give the illusion that they are considering our opinions (even if in reality they are considering them - we do not sit in on their meetings and thus cannot know this for sure).

Nearly half of responders do not think that the Council promotes the growth of the realm - and this shouldn't come as a surprise. The public view of the Council has been largely administrative - they punish, announce, and organize. Because the Council is not in-game, and their style differs vastly from Mur's thought-explosiveness, it can be harder to tell that they are in fact moving the game forward in a creative direction.

Furthermore, most of the times the Council does speak on the forum and in announcements, it sounds robotic and overly controlled - most likely because the writer of the Council is attempting to sound as objective as possible (and as much unlike themselves). This stripping of all personal flair leads to an image of coldness and perhaps even contempt.

I hope that you will take my opinions with a grain of salt, and if you would like to post your own analysis or a response to mine, by all means.

Should further proof have to be shown, I will, though it will be taken with personal offense that my word is not sufficient enough for you fang.

There are a lot of things on my mind.

Yesterday while talking to a friend I realized how much MD has become a part of my life. Friends I made here have been closer to me than those I have had to work with and stay with. They know more about me than most people in my life. I have felt them share my happiness and they've been with me to share my sorrows as well. I have received love and friendship unconditionally, unselfishly

It does not end there. MD has taught me few of the basic rules of life as well. That life is not always fair. That life rewards those who never give up. Or those who work hard. If not instantly, definitely at some point of time. It helped me realize majorly that not all people are how they appear. If there are liars, cheaters, manipulators and bullies, there are also those who are willing to help, lend you time or an ear, people who have your back. That there is no dearth of kindness and benevolence. It has taught me optimism. That bad always happens. But there's some good somewhere around it. It has taught me about loyalty, about persistence, about wit. It has taught me that being different is always a pro because it helps you to learn. I learned about the different shades a person projects. I learned how to appreciate a person's point of view. That language is never a barrier to free thinking.

Everyday I learn that I am not the only person with n number of problems in life. And how to stay cheerful despite all that. Everyday I learn about history, geography, current affairs and stuff happening around the world. I learn how to appreciate art, the different varieties of humor, the different styles of expression. I learn how to attain victory. I learn how to accept defeat. And from defeat I learn never to give up. I have learned how to Welcome people. I have learned how to say goodbyes.

Today when someone mentioned 'What if MD gets closed down?' it kinda hit me. Of course one would learn to live without it. But hell it'd be tough. So, I thought it better to convey how I truly felt about this community and this game. I highly doubt MD will ever be a phase for me. Thank you MD community for all the good and the bad that has happened till date. You have taught me a lot. I am grateful for everything.

P.S. NO I AM NOT LEAVING YET ><

This is basically a raffle for gifts, but with a twist. (I'd have preferred to put it up earlier so I could reward today, but times interfere I guess.)

Every person that wishes to enter has to talk to some people outside of their usual friend circles. I won't go and try to do my best to force you to do it, but that's the idea of doing it, so if I see someone just asking his friends for referrals, I reserve the right to disqualify you.

Every person who wishes to enter into the raffle has to bring me 3 referrals, one of each from a player with AD in the category of 1-300, 300-1000 and 1000+. Every person can only recommend someone else once. I ask that people who give their recommendations let me know privately in addition to the nominee listing them, namely using forum pm- or ingame if you can catch me there. I would also request that the people nominating do not do this because they were bribed with gifts, coins, etc, but because they actually got to know someone else more than before and thought he deserved a try for something awesome.

Prizes I will scale upon seeing how many enter, but I intend to be generous with at least one drachorn- this is why I ask that people who are capable of acquiring these or already possess one let others have a try, in the spirit of christmas. Minimum will be at least a santa though.

Edit: People can receive more than 3 nominations, but of course that will mean less chances for others to enter. So to prevent someone from getting 10 before anyone knows, I ask that once you have all 3 you need you post here (and only get those 3 first), and then you are allowed to get more, to a maximum of 10.

I will add a small bonus prize for whoever also takes the most enjoyable screenshot of some of the chats they had with the people. That is not limited to the sponsors, anyone you talked to in the process counts for this bonus.

Deadline I intend for this is the 31st of January, a little over a month.

I don't expect this needs saying, but it is not allowed to use multiple different accounts to vote multiple times, therefore an alt check will be performed on the votes.

You are not allowed multiple forum accounts, if someone is marked as your alt you better have a very good reason. I have written a script which can be applied to any polls so that i can detect alts much faster than i previously could, Feel free to contact me to ask me to perform any altchecks on polls.

Soon it will be el Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

This festival is all about celebrating the dead. With prayers, a nice altar (Google “Altar de los Muertos”) and, most importantly, wildly decorated skulls! These skulls come in many shapes and forms most notably in the form of sugar skulls.

For this quest you're asked to make your own colourfully decorated skull. How exactly you make it I'll leave up to your own imagination, but the more colour the better and edible skulls get bonus points.

Rewards:
First place: A Shade + a WP
Second Place: 15 Silver + an Angien
Third place: 10 Silver + a Tormented Soul
Fourth place: 5 Silver

Furthermore all will get some Candy!

The deadline is midnight ST in the night from November 2 on 3. After that there will be a public vote to decide the best skull for one week. Voting has started, cast your votes here.

Some examples; some sugar skulls, a drawing and some skull cookies :

[*]From what I know the heat vote wasnt conclusive one way or the other among other things.
[*]A funeral is a funeral, its to do with leaving the dead to be dead, not reviving them.
[*]The MB thread is in a hidden forum so most people dont know what that is.
[*]The revive fruit stuff is all on forum other than Fyrd... and how many of you guys are actually supporting Fyrd? Cuz when I go to the garden there is usually nobody there and I didnt see anyone helping him with his drumming or his walk or....well anything for that matter.
Get off the forum and get into the game and do something. Do it because its fun to do stuff, do it because you get to be creative, you might actually enjoy it and with the 'hope' as Mya puts it, that it might actually work, really try and dont give up. Fyrd is desperately trying to lead you all and you'd rather sit in game drinking tea and sit here typing out how aggravated you are - which is fun in itself I suppose but if you really mean what you are saying here then go physically support Fyrd.

I don't like the idea of an automatic revival or a resurrection without help of others. Why? Because people would find little reason to help someone who would get back after a month anyway. Many great initiatives came from dead, like Chewett's heat letting for the king; Maebius, Katt and Guillak's heat gathering for Seigheart (and later on themselves) together with Passant's War on Death and even Dst's ritual to make Bob bloom for Eon. Most of these efforts wouldn't be there if the dead would be resurrected after a month anyway.

It seems like everyone agrees that paying 20 Gold to revive someone is outrageous, but why has no one tried to resurrect them using a different way? Why has there been no mas heat gathering? Why has no one tried to reconstruct the ritual Dst used to get Eon back? Have the Lorerootians forgotten their laws now they no longer have a king? "To aid fellow citizens" and "To defend other Lorerootians by word and deed."

Why haven't the bringers of light brought their light to the GoE, brought the life bringing light? Especially now one of Marind Bell's own citizens has died as well.

Same goes for the rest of MD our citizens are dying and we just sit by watching idelly, telling a few to fix what we don't feel worth the trouble to work for.

Heat is the blood of all activity in MD, garthering enough heat therefore will bring back those that died, so why not stop wasting our time complaining about Grido and start bringing back the dead?

Heat gathering you say? Well, currently, heat is being gathered to "ressurect" the Children of the Eclipse with the Defense Quarters in Loreroot. If that becomes successful, and it sways the heart of Mur, and the Council, then too, it can be done to ressurrect the Dead. Go to Loreroot and open the chest therein. Open an orb and then click on the "pray" button. Let us see how successful can be. Heat only works if the people are WILLING to give it up.

Well, my full thoughts on the matter are a bit complicated.

While I see the overall importance of Patience and the need for personal accountability towards Action for our characters, there is a line somewhere between the "game" and the Game of MagicDuel. Death is an interesting experience, if handled properly. The limitations can be either torturous for someone dedicated to creature combats, or wonderful for those into the RP and symbolic side of things. Death, overall, is a good thing to have, as ther is always hope for it's reversal. Nothing ever dies in MD has been said before, in relation to accounts leaving, and such.

In this regard, charging for a revival is also a good thing. We are free to set our own selves up as anything we want here. Greedy, evil, good, generous. It all can exist in the shared wonderful Realm we inhabit here. There is always potential challenges for our characters, that if soemthnig doesnt' work, try something else. If it's important to you, and you put forth an effort, there's a nice chance Things Happen.

However, the important part of this is the hope and potential for the future. Failure in MD can teach us about our own responses to similar situations in Life. But those lessons need to be constructive, rather than rejections.

I really really hate to use Spartiatis as a martyr, but his situation is a perfect example in my mind where the meta-line of "MD spirit" can potentially get crossed. The player was effected deeply, and by my reading had posted "I'm done".
Some could say the character did not put forth enough effort towards his Goal (revival), and those are valid thoughts, in most cases. Yet not everyone here Roleplays, or is a socialite.
Some could say that it's just another case of the person not "getting" the realm's identity, and not quite fitting in. I can't accept that opinion though, because there is no "not fitting in" here. There 's a place for all types of characters, silent grinders, or pure Roleplayed Beings.
I'm sure there are peopel who come to MD as curious newbies, and leave after a while, finding the game not to their liking. That's fine.

But when someone enjoys the game, has integrated themselves into the community, then loses Hope that they will ever get to play again.. that's bad.
That reflects directly on MagicDuel itself, counter to the Advertiser's efforts. Pushing a player away, is generally a bad thing, once it becomes clear that the Character's irritation of "being dead" has crossed over to player frustration at being excluded entirely from what keeps him/her here to begin with.

Would the spirit of MD be harmed deeply if in such cases the admins or Council steps in to "cheat" a bit and revive someone in this sort of situation?

Ideally, I'd hope that the player would at least be reminded "sorry its taking so long, try something else." or "Rest assured that in ## time, you could be revived again, but not at the moment". A little glimmer of Potential is a Big Deal at times.

So in summary, the value of a Revival in MD is quite variable, depending on the situation.
The value of a Life in MD is priceless though. If we kill a spirit, that is not worth the cost at all.
