Elthen Airis reacted to Muratus del Mur in Questmaker's Backpack
--THESE ARE PRIVATE NOTES, I WILL BE CHANGING THEM AS DEVELOPMENT ADVANCES . i PUT THEM PUBLICK SO YOU CAN HAVE A PREVIEW :) --

I am working on a set of tools to allow quest makers to build realy well integrated quests. I will be posting here the list of PREDEFINED actions to be found in the Questmakers Backpack.

RAW POSSIBLE ACTIONS TO MIX, PENDING EDITS:
- create pickable clicky in a location
- assign existing item functionality to a clicky (LIST)
- require to have other named items to show a clicky
- require not having named items to show clicky
- trigger overlay image on clicky action (quest related visuals)
- trigger secondary actions on clicky action (like focus inventory)
- create progressive clickies (like the bushy)

POSSIBLE ITEM FUNCTIONALITY:
- all current existing items with all settings variable
- (need to check if illusions and spells work as expected on items)

I have terrible memory so having this here will help me plan things better.

As you can see there can be any combination of the above and that allows limitless possibilities...however, i will prepare PREDEFINED sets of actions/settings as quest building blocks to place in the Questmakers Backpack. This is not due to any limitations but to make things easier and more clear also to less experienced quest makers that might find real examples more inspireing than totall freedom.

----

Please feel free to suggest such functionality presets if you think you understood what is going on. Best if you would make recommandations based on quests you would like to implement yourself. If you are not totally sure you understand what is going on, please do not reply here. I will be posting updates as i will start to create such presets and things will become more clear.

---

Current work done:
- assisting tool to easy place clickables on the scene (see screenshot)

below i will post the updates

====== 30 dec 2013 =====

First tools in the backpack:
1) create 1-20 pickable items with custom artworks placed in any scene, no item functionality
2) create one public item that becomes available only if you collected all required items

We are planning to slowly move other warnings and similar over to using this format, for a more standardized and easier to use MD.

Elthen Airis reacted to rikstar in The roleplay arena (MD birthday quest.)
The roleplay arena

Explanation:
Every participant has to make a character first. This could be his/her character ingame, but you could also create one that is not your ingame character. After that I will group every person with an other. Those two players have to fight each other. As you already may have guessed you fight through chat. Those fights will last 30 minutes. After that you both will be judged. You'll get to see on the forums who won, and what your score was.
I understand if the fighting mechanic isn't that clear. So I made a really short example fight.

Example
person1: *Runs at person2 with his iron sword ready to attack.*
person2: *Uses his magic to cover his body with stone.*
person1: *Slashes in at the stone armour from person's2. He manages to break some of by his stomach.*
person2: *hits his arm at the person's1 sword. The sword flies out person's1 arm.*

What you have to do to enter the quest:
Fill this form in, and place it in this forum topic.

Form:
MD player name:
RP character name:
Time: (At which time and day you are online at the MD birthday.)
Gender:
Age:
Species:
Special abilities:
A small background story:

I will post at 18 April(So you can sign up untill the server clock is at 18 of April) who will fight who, at which time and where. If you can't at that time PM me and we will find a solution.
How many fights you have is based on how many people are participating.
The winner is the person with the most points. If two players have the same points they will fight for who is better(this is for every participants not for who gets first place).

Rules:
1 Don't overpower your moves. (Don't use godmode like cutting someone's head off or make yourself invinsible.)
2 Each turn takes two minutes, when you don't answer your turn the other player can take his/her turn.
3 Have fun.

Judging:
You will get a number between 1 and 10 for every part stated below.
Originality. (Are your moves original? Are you using different moves?(This doesn't involve how original your character is.))
Creativity. (Are you using simple moves or complicated ones.)
Writability. (Are you using simple sentences or are you using some beautifull writing skills.)
Domination. (How dominant were you in the fight. Did you mostly defend or attack.)(Domination counts twice for your score.)
I will take the average of those numbers and that's your score.

Matches round1:
Thursday:

Elthen Airis reacted to Change in The Coloured Paper
The Coloured Paper
A paper printed on coloured paper

What? The Coloured Paper is a general, all use paper, that anyone can publish anything in. It can contain news, stories, poems--anything. The only limitation is that it can't contain anything that would be against the rules to say in MD's chat. While there used to be different colours for different categories, there won't be now at first. I'll create the categories once I've received a sufficient amount of content to know how best to make them.

Where? The Coloured Paper is now located at the book in the Clash of Ages but it might end up being published in multiple places throughout the realm. Note: What's in the paper now is from how it used to work. Once I start seeing new submissions, it will get reorganized.

Who? Anyone can either submit content to the paper for free, or apply to be an official Wordsmith. A new wordsmith gets paid 1 silver for every ten pages that s/he gets published in the paper. If s/he's skilled enough, s/he may advance a rank. The ranks (and how much they get paid) are:

Wordsmith: 1 silver/10 pages
Bronze Wordsmith: 1 silver/7 pages
Silver Wordsmith: 1 silver/5 pages
Gold Wordsmith: 1 silver/3 pages
Magic Wordsmith: 1 silver/1 page

Note: A wordsmith can opt in and out of pay whenever they choose. Their rank won't change based on whether they want to get paid or not. However, a wordsmith cannot ask to be paid for past work that they've done for no pay (to prevent abuses). I might decide to give them silver out of my own pocket for that past work, but I don't have to.

When? Whenever I choose to publish. Note, that writers will not be asked to stick to deadlines: However, wordsmiths will only be paid when their submissions are published. Right now, there are no real 'issues' of the Coloured Paper. Pages are published on a weekly, daily, etc., basis, as they come. I might create different issues in the future.

Why? Because I think that MD would benefit from a well-run paper, whatever form it takes.

Any Suggestions and submissions are appreciated.

The weight based on age is the most decent idea I have heard in a long time. Alts would be indeed a problem but I think we can counter it by adding other variables I don't know: closeness to balance for example (first i though of number of wins or loses but we do have alts that were made for farming so...that was a no no), number of crits, <insert others>. We design a nice formula and a minimum number of points and voila!

Also, I love the idea of different types of protectors . How I see it: first 2 stages are normal for all of them but based on the spells you cast on those 2 stages (amount or other variable) you become one of the protector types. For example: you cast weaken, otherarmy, etc --war protector, heal, give vital, boosts --healer (or whatever you wish to call it) and so on.

I'm sorry, you must have mixed me up with somebody else
I didn't give that suggestion (at least I don't have memory of it). I was saying that current state of protectors allows open interpretation of a specific MP6 player, allows him to create a cult like Savelfuser did, or something different, depending on RP, but that I encourage interface addons that will allow more 'depth', depends on the addon itself. (my words summarized up) That you shouldn't enforce a specific kind of approach for protectorship, rather leave it for the individuals to develop it in their own way for themselves.
Yes, apologies, Rhaegar. It's true, it was Lightsage who gave the suggestion about resources. I changed the post.

Anyway, continuing on-topic age related solution to adepts is indeed a wonderful idea. However, i reckon it'd be better if more weight is given on players with more age, considering they hardly change their adept choice(due to loyalty to a person who introduced them into the game, due to the fact that no everyone could actually teach you more at the level, etc.) and having less weight on new players. Now the exact ratio should be considered if everyone agrees to the idea.

It has been a long time since the number of creatures and items are no longer within a reasonable small number.

I've been looking for an easy way to solve this problem.
NO. Selling / sacrificing creatures is not the answer answer I am looking for, nor "saving" them to "bestiary".

So, here it is: 1 mark (true / false) to hide creatures & items from their lists.

What is required ?
Add in database 1 more field / flag as : hidden.

What does it do ?

Instead of having a creature list with all the creatures / items, simply display what is chosen.

Example: You would have a creature list with just the selected creatures , and the complete list.

Where would it apply ?

Just when listing the creatures : creature list and when selecting creatures for a ritual.

Are the other pages impacted ?
No, there should be no impact as the list from database is mostly extracted with all fields.

Why ?
Simple, there are too many creatures / items .

The following ideas might be true, but there is no evidence that they are. They are presented for your amusement - reader beware. Please add your own to this growing list.

1. The Multi-Window alert is actually an advanced level spell used by certain players to prevent attacks on them, and to freeze players in place as they breeze past.

2. The low-grade avatars you see in the shop were NOT selected randomly, but were chosen by a secret committee that is trying to guide your role-playing development.

3. Alpha-zero is actually a code for, "I don't like your work".

4. Your regen timer display is actually manipulated by an advanced spell used by certain players trying to prevent your use of bursts.

5. There are only six real players in this game, and two are on vacation.

6. This entire realm is actually an experimental project of the University of Romania's Psychology Department.

7. Understanding of the rules is carefully monitored. When average comprehension reaches a certain index level, the rules are changed.

8. See your ID number? There really are that many people who have joined MD prior to you, and they almost all are getting updates on your mistakes and screw-ups. Only those who remain active in the game do NOT get these updates.

9. Mur is really Elvis.

10. The game is NOT run out of Romainia, it is run by space aliens studying earth culture.

11. The game is actually an attempt by islamic extremeists to undermine western productivity by drawing off the creative thinkers from the western work force.

12. You're missing all the really good stuff - the party keeps shifting away from wherever it is you are logged on.

13. This post was not made by Fyrd Argentus, but rather by another player of the same name.

- you want Adventure Log continued: usual ppl were followed and commented with no real need of RP from their side
There was a way for people to interfere though, but I am not talking about Adventure Log itself, I am talking about a side-branch story of lesser importance, but in relation with Adventure log, what should be 'the main active RP story' of the game. Those side-branch events would, in difference to Adventure Log, let players find their way into the highlight and give freedom of choice. Options can be many, but one of them could be a quest, where players would be encouraged to solve a puzzle journey to find an artifact, which the solver would receive as prize for finding it first.

But you would remove that OOC approach "let's play a quest!" we get for most of current quests, either made by admins, either made by players.
Things would simply happen, without an announcement "solve me", people would pick up clues and try to find out what is actually going on. It would be an in character sort of thing.
That also answers your two other thesis.

At the moment, we are missing an active 'main' story, for years now. I think it's an integral thing to be present in our beloved realm if we want to refresh the global desire to play MD, and maybe get some extra people.
I'm not trying to put pressure on anyone in charge to get something like this done as soon as possible, I just think it is a reasonable thing to be put on a "goals" list, and in one of the first places too. If we don't have the required energy and will to make a 'main' story of a sorts present and alive, then what are we playing? We are maintain a game, we are not playing it. To clear it up, I don't have that approach, I still find MD much fun and I am sad I don't have enough extra time to invest more in it, but I am trying to make a point.

The point is not to make the game 'fixed', to go in a straight direction, no, of course the creation of players themselves and the way they act in realm should be the axiom of general game status (political, social, cultural, you name it), but, there should be something else present, that we currently lack.

I remember how I was impressed by the Adventure Log people, when I registered here, by reading the active chapters on the side bar, and then, all of a sudden meeting them in a regular scene. That is a huge factor to make a person like this game and keep on playing, or keep the old players playing with more wind in their back.

Hmm, while I see the value in more "internal MD" stuff like guardds, or broken patterns, or such, I think in some ways that misses the spirit of what drew me here initially. (Note: the below is obviously biased, cause I really like clickable scripts!)

The power of this realm is that We make it run smoothly, or not so smoothly.
Expanding Story Mode, or working with official repetitive Quests would be a short-term benefit for most players, as this new content would quickly be 'solved' and back to the same state we are in currently.

However, the fact that anybody can do almost anything, given time, luck, and skill, is the real draw of this game for me.

I like what you wrote BFH.

Ignoring the obvious historical issues with some 'events':
Want to make another GGG event? Grab some friends and start it.
Want to liven up Loreroot's people? Find a bit more Sludge and run with it.
Want to gather people in the Park for a time instead of GoE? Put hangman on the signpost.
Want to irritate people, or find some like-minded new allies? Deplete resources everywhere.

There's such a myriad of things to do, using the tools already provided, which are "official" because they happen.
Granted, not everything becomes popular, or persists. But things that do, do so because they fit best with the current state of MD.
We hold the power, really really.

Heck , when Molquert was added to give us an "official Thing to use for ressurrection", what happened? He died.
Says something about our little realm, doesn't it.

Sadly because we rely on the time given by others to complete things many items, especially coding, take a lot longer than planned. From time to time i will post up jobs on the forum, none of these jobs are mission critical but jobs that can be done by the community and any time that we dont spend fixing grammar, spellings, or cleaning up ingame text is time we can spend programming/planning the next feature.

To this aim the council and I shall post jobs here that we feel the community can help with. All jobs will be in the format:

I think it would be neat if there could be different 'classes' of Protectors, where one class of Protector has totally different spells than another. It is called worshipping a protector. Why not make it so the protectors are like a pantheon of gods? There'd be protectors of destruction, healing, harvest, etc. In addition to giving heat, worshippers can sacrifice relevant resources to empower their protectors. And no, protectors wouldn't be actual gods, they'd be powerful, specialized, magicians.

I would like to see more long-term protectors myself. Perhaps keep the number of adepts needed to become a protector the same, but after say, a week, reduce the number of adepts required to maintain protector status by half.

I'm not giving these suggestions so that I can be lazy though. If any changes are made, I want it so that protectors still need to work hard and be creative to be really good protectors. (Which I hope to be).

I thought it's quite a decision to actually involve yourself to such an extent with another player, even allowing him to play with your life, in a way. Lately i've been noticing that becoming MP6 is nothing more than just healing your worshipers and trying to get your hands on as much as you can. I doubt that was the initial idea of the Protector/Worshiper relation, so this is a thread to actually see different ideas on how to make this harder and probably worth your while.

Of course, we now have the option of creating items with certain capabilities, which could aid in this case. Please share your thoughts on the matter.

At the moment someone becomes your worshiper he is granted an item that creates a pact like this one with pros and cons, influenced by your actions.
Of course, so is the worshiper himself. That would force certain actions. After all the worshiper is supposed to follow any orders from his master. On the contrary, the master is quite obliged to help and grow his worshipers. If you don't meet the requirements you'll have to do something to compensate your incapability.

Just a thought after reading the item's description.

Items of this sort could be quite useful for the worshipping, don't you think? [Refering to http://magicduel.inv...ct-for-credits/ , Burns]

Elthen Airis got a reaction from Plix Plox in Protector Pact
I remember when i started playing i read the description of becoming a worshiper of a Protector.

I'll quote it here just in case someone hasn't figured it out.
Type in the playername you will worship. Player must be MP 6 and you will get in a close gaming relationship with him. You must respect and obey your protector, denying your protectors wishes or changing him WILL COST YOU DEARLY. Your protector will have LIFE AND DEATH powers over you.

P.S. Thanks Burns for the new thread.
