Sharpwind got a reaction from Amoran Kalamanira Kol in What annoys me in MD
If a new player has an idea, or a complaint and he's trying to participate by posting it
because he is excited or annoyed and sees a thread there for that exact reason
He gets mostly irony and negative criticism as an answer (from the same people)

I constantly read similar comments in the forum: you should know (the rules are somewhere in the chaos called announcements), we can do anything we like (as we've been given god powers you will never have and you can't do anything about it), only our ideas can get implemented (because we waited long enough??), you have to prove yourself first (?? play a hunderd years), md is only for our elite team (from one point on you'll stay stuck in the storymode get bored and leave because our puzzles are just for a few) our way is the only way (what you say does not matter), md is unfair deal with it(even if we alt abuse, even if we exploit bugs, we are in the team and don't get punished), and so on and so on....

It's an annoying attitude that disappoints and drives new players away

That's how I feel at least...

Pretty soon we're going to need a set of commentaries that discuss which announcements supercede which other announcements, the relative validity of forum posts, documentation, and announcements, whether a list of rules (undated) supercedes any particular announcement, and a linguistics analysis as to what was really meant when any given words were written.

The end result of all this is that players don't know what rules to take seriously, and mostly assume that they can do anything the game mechanics allow (which is not unreasonable). Then the gods come along and arbitrarily punish whatever innovative and creative thinking they think is abuse, on that particular day, depending on their mood.

And yes, even in real life, we wait until enough children have been run over at any particular intersection before we put up a traffic light - there.

This situation is a major negative to Magic Duel, and should be tackled at a policy level by the council.

You enter a hat store, and you see a hat you like, you put it on your head and the owner comes over and breaks your legs.

You demand to know why he did it and want reparations, and he just says: There was a sign in the store 3 years ago that said: "You can't try out hats. Whoever tries one will get his legs broken."

MD is a product... And stuff like this does not help it to sell. Even new people who are interested in MD deeper then the basics won't put up with crap for long, and will leave at some point... And then you'll get what you want: The group of people who has all those fancy spells and abilities given to them years ago playing alone, trying to get rid of their frustrations trough MD.

Also, I wouldn't mind a king pulling out TTL out of Nv for the sake of his citizens... Hey, sure, why not? Heads isn't fair. But the council, who isn't supposed to be biased stepping in and doing it because of an unwritten rule? I mean, come on.

Same thing with moderators who do it to some, and not others.

hmm perhaps it would be enough if every citizen of a land could see the percentage of rebellious people in his land
So then one could bring the subject for discussion if the % is high enough (for example over 65%) and propose alternatives in the foroum

Just because I gotta say it, the rule applied was a rule in a forum post, not in the announcements. (thats what I gathered from all the posts in the other topic about this to begin with.)

The ruling system is not noticed or complete. It is fairly easy for a noob to get banned without knowing he/she even broke a rule. Because the rules are and never were stated clearly in the game. This applies to several "questionable" events that have taken place where several people got punished for something that was "questionable". Now yes this instance is more definative than some of those in the past. What I mean is this is a precise issue not a he said she said political nonsense broken rule.

In the end the only rules that exist are the ones that one person makes up. Please be sure to let the future players know to read the 2000+ announcements and the 60000+ forum posts in order to enjoy a happy lifestyle in the game without cause or concern of possibly breaking a rule.

Oh yeah and btw what is this "under the radar" thing? That would imply that I was going into my cave without letting anybody know after you closed it right? I can assure you alot of people knew that cause I posted in the mood panel things like "chillin in my cave" etc... So I was very public about it... Not hiding it..

@RJ: if you still want to continue this , please allow me to grasp the straw in you eye. Perhaps your vision will be better after.

are you sure it wasn;t in the 2000 announcements and you just missed it ? or maybe it was in the 6000 forum posts ? Oh look the forum has a search button! sorry. you were ironic and i couldn;t help myself.

Now RJ: both you and Lifeline aren;t new players. End of story. You both know how things work, no excuse here. The forum is part of MD , and very official , you take your own chances for not reading. No young players was punished for not knowing announcement #1876, you were because you were warned about your actions and yet you accepted the risk. You got caught, you got punishment, you do your punishment, end of story.
The ruling system is not noticed or complete
no ruling system is definite and complete, it develops along with the society that creates it, and about the noticed part..i;m quite sure you don't know the penalty for LAW nr x from 1934 in your own country, etc but if you get caught for it you still have to pay for it.
So I was very public about it...
this ain;t the issue here ...as the punishment was given for a totally different thing.

As much as i am sorry it went this way, i am sorry but i can't allow you to post in this "martyr" stance without replying to you..

What was it that you discovered after two years of md? That there are announced rules that _are_ applied? Or that even ancient players get punished if they behave like careless noobs?

don't bother to reply, it was rethorical. All I had to say on this matter was said already.
If any of you questions the influence of a rule, please from now on debate it before you break it. I am always open to any constructive criticism, regardless what you may think.

@ Tipu:

Thank you very much for the support and especially the time invested to help me. But don't worry this was inevitable, it should have happened long ago. And please forgive those people who claim I used this trial to get out of my punishment. I cant even believe how stupid they think I must be. Only a complete fool would do such a thing in public and not in a private email to Mur. And in case people are wondering yes I did send an email to Mur explaining my situation and tried to change the punishment. But guess what I realized in those emails that I completely misunderstood the game from day1 and with that lost my place to live in MD. I made the trial in hopes to regain a sense of what MD is, or better said in hopes to clarify that I did understand it, or at least try to change it back to what I believed it was. I failed and now I understand what I didn't before.

What was written in the drach lair incident announcement took the most important thing for me in MD. And that was a world I could understand and especially by representing a land like Marind Bell believe in. So my only option left was to make this trial about life and death not only to make sure that it will be taken seriously by higher ups, but most of all to get back my believe into what I have been working for the whole time in Marind Bell.

At any rate its over now and my character failed and died (just need to pass on kingship and actually die officially). And the only person to blame for that is myself because I failed to understand one of the most important parts of the game. I still hope that it will lead to a better presented rules and law system because it really hurt when I realized that it took me over 2 years and a crime to understand how stuff really worked in the game.

I find it amuzing (i am sorry i find it so when it actually hurts me), that you forget the cause of all this whining and cries and you take the opportunity to complain about a more conceptual thing that never happend. Don't worry, i still remember the initial cause. Its been an abuse, its been punished, and an admin spell that i allowed was taken back for good this time. thats all.

I am shrinking the cube? I am limiting your freedom and i am taking away what makes md special? Customizations as opposed to AI?
I am at the edge of flipping and losing my nerve here.

You considered this a "show of power" as malaikat said? It was a show of weakness or mercy of me and still is.
I should have done much much worse just because of all this offtopic crying.

I give you an example Lifeline, or anyone considering this incident to be a lowering of MD "special" flavor, or your liberty.
Consider this and be very honest withyourself. What would have you invented if i were to take your spell and give it to someone else? heh?

You try to make it look as if THE GAME has to suffer, "oh my", but..face it, its you not md. If you want to have a decent talk about concepts and md development trend, i am always open, just don't insult my intelligence and pretend its about this incident. A crime is a crime.

I always leave open opportunities for people to abuse, or customize things based on individual, look around, or kingship blinded you? Oh or wait, maybe if it is not a player that deserves your royal gaze upon him you won't consider it part of MD existance?

I've been around more than any of you, and i see this pathetic story every time. Remember the spell casting panel? those very few of you that had it started to cry that md is not playable without that panel, cried and whined about it in the same way, trying to point out how much damage i did to their role or to md by removing their toy... imagine the horror, they had to gain heat to cast spells, oh my, how could i do such a horrible thing to them.

And back to reality please ... you are wasting my time with all this shit because of what? because an overpowered spell? because a kingship point you don't even care about? because being inactive in jail instead of a cave?

The rule restricting the cave was there for ages, you had plenty of time to complain about conceptual things if your opinion was that closing the cave is a bad thing to do. You just reacted when you account was affected so don't get me more angry than i am.

Ok this is not how I wanted it to sound but I cant come up with a better way to say it:
First of all I agree with what Awiiya said and also with what Fyrd said in my trial topic.

@ Mur:
I believe you created MD as a place for people to develop and grow in. But with your godly interventions you shrink the cube more and more instead of expanding it. I see that I am not alone and that others have picked a much more peaceful road than me but a similar path. You should be proud on the community in MD because it only means that life is no longer content to live in the little cage you have made it lately. You have protected life from abuse and death but that is not the same as living. What do you expect of us? Should we sit back and let you take care of us like babies? You have been leading your „children“ by the hand and gave them a world to live in but still see us as infants. We have grown up, have more faith in us we are stronger than you think.

The god has to step back, if he is to present and intervenes to much all it creates is a prison for the minds of the life he means to protects. And protecting turns into drawing the essence out of that life. Humans are meant to evolve, not to sit down idly and being taken care of by a divine god.

I cant find the words to say what I want to but I will later on post what I mean to say. For now I will only comment one thing: I had the chase spell for almost 2 years ...its all written and documentated in the announcements. Only jonn, mrd, possibly renavoid (not sure if his "spaceship" was chase and summon or a complete different spell) and me had it. And people like mur, knatty, ect. Since knatty and mur still have it (according to announcements) the game lost no spell at all. jonn is long gone and mrd is retired as well so nothing was really changed only 1 person lost it while knatty (i guess so because he wasnt mentioned in annoucnements) kept it.

Shadow, it is basically Murs way of saying ,"I'm taking away your toy, but here is a sucker so don't whine."

He isn't rewarding them, he's doing it to stop then from causing him more headaches. It's not perfect, but don't question it either. Mur has his reasons for doing things a certain way.

Although I'm not involved or affected by the recent ruling on Lifeline, there are a couple of things I personally find troubling. I might be alone in this, and if I am, you should feel free to say so in a post.

I'll start by saying that I agree with the removal of Lifeline's summon spell. He used it in an inappropriate manner, and although others like Jester have used it with questionable motives, Lifeline's use was to me unforgivable. Regardless of whether or not there was an explicit rule prohibiting entrance to the lair, as a King he should have known better, and if he isn't accustomed to reading in between the lines in Mur's announcements by now then I can hardly see how he expects to succeed in the highly nuanced job of King. My suspicion is that most vets, if given the time to consider the morality of such an action, would have chosen not to use the spell in such a way. It might be unfair to consider Grido the norm, but he certainly seemed to know that going into the cave would be wrong.

The problems for me started when I noted the attitude taken towards others who possess the chase spell without an "administrative role." Historically, regardless of the danger certain items and bugs have Mur has never been one to go to great lengths (or in most cases ANY lengths) to protect the general public from themselves, and the decision to remove something on the chance that it might cause problems later is to me a red flag that something is changing. The change towards seemingly-dictatorial meddling is precisely what I am vehemently opposed to.

Danger, risks, and generally unsteady systems have always had for me a certain attraction, most of which comes from the heightened creativity that is a natural product of such systems. Of course there is more risk of failure and even a chance of complete annihilation, but it is rare to see genuinely artistic and creative thoughts coming from a world that is concerned only with peace and stability. My thought is that the more spontaneous experiments (Heads, Torch, Tomabala, Spells, Illusions, etc) the more interesting and (dare I say it? the word that is fading so fast in MD) FUN.

It might just be that by protecting us from ourselves the the council has made MD an ounce more dull, and by guarding us you might actually be killing us. A few years and a couple of like-minded decision down the road we might find ourselves stripped of all such items that "may" cause later harm.

A world without flaws is one that has crumbled to dust, and I would beg the Council to think of this in future decisions.

Awi

P.S. I am unsure if the spells were actually removed, due to the line "only [Lifeline's] punishment will be changed," but I find more problem with the attitude than the actuality.

I dislike the percentage idea, it does not accurately represent differing opinions and such within a group of people.

The only thing I can think of at this time would be for rebels to choose a candidate for kingship that they support upon becoming a rebel; if every new rebel chooses themself, nothing happens, because all rebels need to accept their candidate's rules, direction, etc. Of course, that does still make it possible for generalization of the many opinions, but Iunno.

Rayth: So this is the place huh? *walks around.*
Asterdai: it would be nice if it had an external window *smiles nodding* but it is quiet here
Rayth: Quiet is nice. I like quiet.
Asterdai: a good place to find strange things also! *indicates the book*
Rayth: So, you want to know why I'm totally spazzed over Necrovion, eh?
Asterdai: sure!
: Rayth pokes the top of the book, pushing it down to read the cover.
: Asterdai looks for a chair but heaves himself on the desk instead facing Rayth and swinging his legs
Rayth: Yeah, so.. I guess I could say that Necrovion 'tastes good' to me.
Rayth: I don't think how most of these loonies think.
Rayth: I won't go into any details but I've got a pretty messed up sixth sense.
Rayth: It feeds on fear and pain, and any feeling similar. See? Totally messed up.
Asterdai: *feels a little uncomfortable and shifts uneasily* um yeh?
Rayth: Though it benefits me in a pretty cool way too.
: Asterdai laughs nervously
Rayth: Helps me kind of..y'know.. get a 'taste' of how someone is goin' to be before I meet 'em.
: Rayth notices the guy's discomfort and moves closer to him.
Rayth: So, I think in flavors.
Rayth: And the worst part is..
: Rayth leans against the desk next to the guy.
Rayth: ..I really like it.
: Asterdai nods grimacing and trembling a little
Rayth: But, you know. I don't want anyone to know that.
Rayth: It'd freak them out, see?
Asterdai: hehe yeh hehe
Rayth: Like right now, I taste your fear of just knowing about that funky sense of mine.
: Asterdai slides himself away and hops off the workbench
Rayth: It's like a rich candy placed under my tongue.
Asterdai: you have a real way with Words Rayth *laughs*
Rayth: Oh yeah.. one other thing, dude.
: Asterdai walks over the the bookshelf but faces Rayth, leaning against it for support
Rayth: This sense of mine causes me to see death in a place where it probably happened.
Rayth: Thats one reason why I get stuck in places sometimes.
Rayth: I'll be there for like..four days.

Rayth: That ain't cool though.
: Rayth hops up on the desk.
Rayth: So now ya know.
Asterdai: *nods* i can see why necrovion would appeal to you
Asterdai: do you have friends there, you know pamplemousse well?
Rayth: Well, you know, those shade buggers are pretty appealing too.
Rayth: Yeah. She's my protector.
Asterdai: *smiles* same
Rayth: So what about you?
Asterdai: *removes his hat and scratches his head* i mean, like who do you spend most of your time with
Rayth: Got any weird quirks?
Rayth: I spend most of my time by myself.
Rayth: I try to keep away from people.
Rayth: Too many flavors and I pass out easily.
Rayth: But I guess.. Keith and Pample, but I don't see 'em that much lately.
Asterdai: i spoke with her recently, she makes me happy, i think asryn was there also
Rayth: I don't really talk to asryn much either.
Rayth: Guess I should.
Asterdai: have you spoken to Rasiel?
Rayth: Yeah.
Rayth: I like Rasiel. Nice chick.
Asterdai: yeh, she has um *looks Rayth up and down but in a friendly way* unusual talents like yourself
Asterdai: i wanted to speak to you about something
Rayth: Sure.
Asterdai: you came knowing that i had something for sale, well that is not exactly true
Asterdai: i spoke to Amoran about something which ifound in here, but we both agreed that we shouldnt speak of it, and that it wasnt safe for us to try it
Rayth: Try what?
Rayth: Amoran? Don't know that chick, really.
: Asterdai pushes himself off the shelves and walks next to Rayth and turns back to the book
Asterdai: this book speaks of Daimons and stuff
Asterdai: i dont really understand it much.. but there are also mentions of other sea mythology
Rayth: Ah yeah. Snake ladies.
Asterdai: it is rather confusing, when i read the book i felt enlightened almost, i thought that you should have a read
Rayth: Sure thing, I'll take a look.
: Rayth leans forward to get a good look at the book.
Rayth: You know.. I kinda identify with these chicks.
Asterdai: i should like have shown Rasiel, she may have been able to understand it, maybe you can make sence of it, it might have some kind effect on you
Rayth: *looks up at Asterdai.* Is it in another language or something?
: Rayth carefully takes the book from him, flipping it open to a middle page.
Asterdai: its the things it talks about and they way it talks about them, its not clear in my head, you know on one page im sure its describing some sort of transformation ritual or something
: Asterdai leans over to get a closer look
Rayth: You mean.. this? *taps on the middle of the left page.*
: Rayth skims over the page, reading a bit of it.
: Asterdai looks at the picture of what appears to be a medusa cross with a siren and the strange words glyph'd underneath
Rayth: That page..
Rayth: It's a ritual, yeah.
Rayth: From the looks of it, a pretty screwy one.
: Asterdai snorts a little bit of a chuckle
Asterdai: what does it say?
Rayth: So apparently, I need eight snake heads, four scales, a big ol' bowl, and a drop of my own blood.
Rayth: Then I need.. *flips through pages* ..pure fountain water.
Rayth: And I'm supposed to drink this junk once it boils.
Rayth: See? Screwy.
Asterdai: *gags a little* eww that sounds minging
: Asterdai looks at rayth and points out a line
Asterdai: but this one here.. there is a code, i wonder what it means
Rayth: Huh. Funky.
Rayth: No idea man, maybe it's something you chant.
Rayth: Though, that'd be sorta weird.
Asterdai: *reads out the code* (pm)
Asterdai: *stumbles a little over the strange letters* maybe you should have a go at saying it
: Rayth coughs to clear her throat.
: Rayth repeats the code, speaking each bit clearly.
: Rayth waits.
: Rayth looks around.
Asterdai: *smiles* ah well
: Rayth steps back while a bunch of coins fall from...the ceiling?
Rayth: Woah, okay.
Rayth: So.. it summons coins.
: Rayth counts the coins while they rattle on the floor.
: Rayth checks her pockets.
Rayth: Shoot, no. Those are mine.
Rayth: But I don't need 'em. They're yours if you want 'em.
: Asterdai chuckles
Asterdai: thats very strange, these books are odd!
: Rayth flashes her pearly whites.
: Asterdai winces a smile
Rayth: Think I'll be takin' this book.
Rayth: It's kind of weird, and I like that junk.
Asterdai: well umm.. of course! *looks litte longingly at the book* im just glad you like it too
: Rayth looks down at the book.
: Rayth pushes it into Asterdai's hands.
Rayth: You should read it, actually.
Rayth: I'll find something else.
Asterdai: *shakes his head* it belongs on the shelf here, im sure ill find something odd again soon
Asterdai: i dont feel i should like my coins to drop from the cieling *frowns a little grinning*
Asterdai: im glad it solved the mystery, i shall have to let my friend know, thanks for your help
Rayth: Your welcome, dude.

Well, I've finally started drawing some decent avatars, and I thought I'd share them here. Also, I'm planning to make this a topic where I will add my work and let people suggest how to make it better... Or even make suggestions towards what I should draw.

The work is not by any means high quality and I wouldn't call it art, but I think it is good enough for someone to make it their avy if it "fits them."

I'll start with a couple that were already approved.

My current avatar. Drew it while watching The Matrix. The movie inspired me in some strange way.

Started drawing it as an angelic character but decided against it, and got this martial arts kind of feel.

Staff and cloak. Overdid the shading a bit, didn't manage to tune it down during editing, but I guess someone might like it.

The Fool. My previous avatar and the first avy I was satisfied with.

Still waiting on approval, so feel free to suggest changes:

Grave Digger. Inspired by the Caretakers, I couldn't manage to make the sword look as I wanted to no matter how much I tried...

A coat and hat dude... Looks French to me, for some reason.

Custom made for Seigheart, if he likes it... I was going for creepy... I'm not sure if I hit the spot.

Pirate avy... Not much to add... Done during my insomnia run.

Custom made for Atrumist.

Old man...

@Mur: So then you agree that what you said about the cave was in a forum post and not an ingame announcement? If you want to call me ignorant for not reading 30,000+ forum messages be my guest. But it's not like I missed an announcement or a personal message from you saying that the cave was restricted. And I don't expect you to care, however I do expect the use of practical reasoning skills. Not something like you dont like me or Manda for some reason or another and that is where you seen the opportunity to classify some "just cause."

First of all rename this if you want it to make any sense:

"Lifeline Vs Murs And Courts Decision In The Drach Lair Incident"
to
"Lifeline Vs Decision In The Drach Lair Incident"

There are no trials against me. period. Why? consider it part of my role specifications. MD is a mixture of good and bad decisions, this should remind you democracy is a luxury you don't actually have in here.

How i see things:

- You managed to keep decency while angry on me, thats good (others didn't), for this alone i will allow this "trial" to go on
- Your concerns are for YOU and at most a group of people but you don't seem to be concerned about you as a King too much
- You like to interpret words, MD is not RL, you will not manage to go around things by wording loopholes.
- You are ready to lose everything over this, makes me think how "much" you value what you have
- You twist evidence just to favor you, but you miss one fact..what you sis screams out load "WRONG"
- There is no pardon for not knowing rules, and my word IS rule unless i say its opinion. I was perfectly clear about the cave.

You as a king have the enormous advantage that you can ask me anything directly, you didnt.
For me its clear, in the perspective of personal advantage you pretended to not know, but once this turned against you you try to pose as a victim. Most of the other details were covered by others in their replies.

I will do you a favor, I will let this to go on and ask the Council to disregard my wish as a ruler and reanalyze the situations in their own terms. You can have it by public vote for all i care. The decision on your and others punishment was taken be ME, bypassing the council because it involved decisions that can't be taken by anyone else than me, like the pardoning of seig, or hunting down of each and everyone there for "opinions" about them being there. Your case doesn't involve any exception, it can be handled by council or by public even.

You will lose a second point for this if you fail. ..mainly because it is not the behaviour of a king to act like this.

And note, if you ever play so easy about ban requests , i will grant you this "wish". If you don't care about your own character in md , why should I?

Now, I have made this post for one reason and one reason alone, for the sake of pointing out how ridiculous these recent claims of power have been, be in terms of leadership of not fully discovered land which is Neutral like the archives or be it from invading another land for the sole sake of gaining more power. I have no interest in such a pointless claim to power or "leadership" as it were.
The Tribunal lands are neutral and as such should never have one specific leader as they will never be involved in war, For those who have take my prior post seriously, have me quite concerned, and not a good way. Your odd claims to power are naught but pointless true power comes from people not spells, dots or otherwise. For that reason, I can ensure there will never be a leader of the Tribunal despite the so called would be claims of the potential Caretaker candidates.
lol you seem worried !

Well this is a roleplaying game and people will always claim things for themselves and of themselves by their roleplay...
that does NOT mean they're going to get them (that's the whole self-proclaimed thingy) or that what they claim is true

It's a game, if it's intriguing it's more fun and dictatorships are intriguing...
they can be overthrown, they can have wars for "power" , assassinations and more

And if I might add... it's just a proposal
