There needs to be a defense attorney.

People cannot always defend themselves very well and may stir negative emotion from the mob. I think this was a problem in Rex's trial.

I recommend trials be conducted on the forums, so that a trial proceeds swiftly, not having to wait until several unique people come online (which could be abused by the defender). A bonus would be to deter rash decisions and promote transparency. Courtroom logs would automatically be saved.

A minimum of staff would be necessary this way; several trials could proceed at once (if need be), and timezones are irrelevant.

I think everyone should have for himself a note on the calendar of their own account's birthday, but nobody else's. And double bonus for the day.

Minor MD events have the changelog for that. No need to put them in the calendar.

A few major things that don't change, like the anniversary of MD itself, need to be remembered, IMHO. Otherwise, the calendar's good as it is (just needs finishing).

So, we have seen several players throughout MD who have no regard for any of the rules set up by Mur, or the Community.

We can't ban them permanently, but we can do the next best thing!

So... I bring you the...

The MagicDuel Behavior Modification Program:

Or... MagicDuel Inhumane Tickle Torture for Extreme Nitwits!

[The Name is Subject to Change]

The Purpose:

To embarrass, humiliate, and punish the individuals amongst us that annoy us with their disregard for anyone else but themselves.

The Goal:

To humiliate the subjects of MITTENs to the point where they learn to be more docile, and become integrated within our society(if all goes well) or they get tired of the MITTENs program and become hermits(leave).

The Way:

Using the current system of holding Trials(rarely ever held but still current), we hold public court hearings with a judge(a neutral person), a jury(our Community), Prosecuter(someone responsible for bringing the unjust behaviours of the Defendant to light) and the Defendant. Last, but not least, the Executioner. The prosecutor will try the Defendant, let them plea their case, and defend themselves while the Jury sits quiet. Once the prosecutor and defendant are finished, the Jury has their turn to ask the Defendant questions about their behaviour, offenses, and items of relevance.

Once this stage is finished, the Judge, the Jury, and the Prosecutor retire and converse about the trial, and come up with a suitable punishment.

The Executioner shall uphold the punishment suitable to the case.

How:

The Judge must be able to separate him or herself from emotions, but still be able to think rationally. These people are few and far in between. So, we must choose carefully on who the Judge may be.

The Prosecutor must be able to bring evidence, witnesses, and proof that the Defendant is guilty.

The Jury must be able to think creatively, and constructively when deciding whether the Defendant is guilty, or whether the evidence is powerful enough to bring about a punishment.

Edit:

Please tell me what you think, any suggestions, and any constructive criticism is MORE than welcome!

I have to admit I'm a little bothered by a some of the things I've seen lately. Not so much that one is punished, but that another is not for a crime. More than once I've seen someone rewarded for "playing their role" when it was a negative event like stealing or hacking. Then others are punished for the same or lesser things even if it is their role. I'm not saying the punishment is wrong. I'd rather see things happen equally.

okay, let's see...

It wouldn't be right to have an feature that gives you freedom to PM anyone, that's abusive, only people who sign up at the office can be PMed there (which would most probably also be easiest to code, since Rendril already mentioned he could do such a thing)

then, costs: it has to cost something for the user, not the one who gets messages through that office LOL
the people who leave their names at the office do so to make sure other people who need them, but never meet them, can send them messages, i used to do that by leaving traces in a place where nobody talks, but that didn't help much most of the time...
I think it would be a pretty interesting, and easy to code, 'cost' if you could only use the post office to leave a message for someone once every 12 hours, this avoids spamming and is enough reason to think twice before sending a message through it

and, when i talked about the messenger i was making a veteran-joke (MD-ish aequivalent to an insider-joke), of course that's codework, not an opportunity for people who have nothing to do with their lives to run around, scream 'have you seen..?' even more and even feel important when doing that LOL

It is a good idea but there are inaccuracies in what you have written.

As for learning how MD works, there is a basic "How to play MD" given in the tutorial, but the finesses of the game are meant to be discovered on your own. Yes, there are many ways to do this, you can ask around and get help. But the point is that if you want to find something, you must get a shovel dig for it, not have it given to you on a platter from the forum.

apophys got a reaction from Chewett in Are Drachorns Too Common?
I would like to see drachorns being more common, though FAR less powerful, or easily counterable (I prefer the latter).

I don't own any, but I can still make suggestions. That Rusty aura is definitely too powerful to be without caveats. There needs to be a situational debuff added on.
Such as: weakening all creatures in the rit by 5% for every aura in play, including this one.

There needs to be some mechanism (maybe via a new crit, on its own or by boosting the TS aura) to normalize giant stats. This needs to be done anyway to stay true to the "a new player can beat a vet" principle, and will provide a counter to angiens (taking away their massive defense will make them kill themselves).

And actually open the Drachorn's Lair, maybe via a WP or quest.

Making philosophy out of simple arithmetic? Ha ha...

"You can not obtain the original number (10) by multiplying 3*3.3333 unless you have an infinite number of ...333... after the dot, but you can't have that without the helpof division!"

If we are going to be precise, then you need to put an infinite number of zeros after 10 and 3; otherwise the number implies a level of uncertainty of the last digit ("significant digits"). I.e. you need 10.000000... and 3.0000000... . Exactly contradicting the second part of the sentence.

I notice Observer has trouble with the concept of infinity... This "missing a 0.000...0001 somewhere" is postponed indefinitely, so it never occurs.

What makes you tie division to entropy anyway? Making a number smaller? Then multiply by 0.1 .

"Life creates matter out of information, out of nothing virtually."

Life REARRANGES matter based on information in DNA & RNA.

Thus, lowering entropy for the living organism. But, overall entropy still increases; this organism needs sustenance; it creates more entropy in its surroundings than it removes by its presence.
Interesting quotes from wikipedia:
"Current findings in statistical mechanics show that entropy is governed by probability, allowing for a decrease in disorder even in closed systems. Although possible, this event has a small probability, making it unlikely for a decrease to occur; if any were to occur, it would be a transient decrease that would affect a limited number of particles in the system."
"Entropy is the only quantity in the physical sciences that seems to imply a particular direction for time, sometimes called an arrow of time. As we go "forward" in time, the second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system tends to increase or remain the same; it will not decrease. Hence, from one perspective, entropy measurement is thought of as a kind of clock."
"The question of the link between information entropy and thermodynamic entropy is a hotly debated topic. Some authors argue that there is a link between the two, while others will argue that they have absolutely nothing to do with each other."

"But there is more to life than just syntropy. Living beings are complete systems; this means that both syntropy and entropy should happen within same system. And they do. A part of one's life is syntropic, while the other part is entropic. The bridge between the two parts of our lives happens at around 25 years, but depends on the person."
(grammar fixed)

You mean that the balance is tipped from syntropy to entropy at ~25 years of age.
Fun fact: the human brain finishes its development at ~25.
I believe that with thedevelopment of technology, this tipping point can be postponed indefinitely.

Overall entropy always increases; this is why I chose the principle in story mode.

There was a joke, how long is the coast of England..answer was that it depends on the length of the ruler you measure it with. If you divide it in smaller chunks is longer, if thery are bigger chunks the coast appears smaller. Eventualy with an endlessly small ruler, it would be endlessly big
Incorrect. It would approach a finite limit; this is the real length.
Fun fact:
1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32 + 1/64 + ... = 1

It's kinda like that.

no, its a test, you didnt have to participate, Your loss
I presume not participating means not playing at all for the duration of the test, because I had managed to successfully remove charge from an idler (haven't tested whether this still works). That's a bit harsh, because the test will supposedly last a while.

Now that I think about it, I have yet to see an instance where draining principles actually increases charge on an existing principle. Charge can be destroyed only, as far as I've seen (this makes sense, because Mur stated in the announcement that this draining is an alternative to a reset of all charges). I personally quite like it, but would prefer a new creature for it, and I think it should do more creature damage.
