MD is still a dodecahedron more or less...

    4) starting from the last 4 surviving players, all untokened creatures allowed.
    5) no combo rituals.
    6) all contestants must sign up here and on the bhc signup page
    7) don''t hurt the mp3's while crossMP attacking is allowed (purposefully attempting to cap them, drive them to -2325412108vp and so on. Best if you refrain from cross mp3 attacks beyond what is needed for the tournament )

    24h before the contest signup page will be opened (bhc). You have to sign up!
     
    I will draw random pairs.
    Two fights per pair (player one attacks player two and vise versa) .
    Logs and screenshot from result page to me. If its totally equal (win/lose/stealth/sword), we will redo once. If still i'll judge (might find a extra judge)
    Survivors of first rounds will be drawn again against each other (losers might have to fight again between them to balance the amount of players advancing)

    @blackrider.. it doesn't sound unfair to me. It's not like irl(sponsors to make favors to their families and stuff) you could participate if you're okay with not getting a prize (in case you should have got the thing you offered), unless someone offers you an identical one (like Chewett did) Please tell me if and why I'm wrong.

    @jester.. Charades? I'm not sure what that is, but the original game rules were for the same team members to guess. But that wouldn't work because it would be very easy to cheat... And yes, that would get you disqualified, the descriptions have to be subtle, that's why i also decided to have a jury :D

    Oh, that's the game that I based the the quest on yup. We play it here in groups and it's always really fun. SO I tried to make it fitting for playing it in the chat, and eventually made a quest. I really hope it will turn out well and we'll all have fun. :)

    *There will be teams. Each team has two players. 
     
    *Two teams compete, then other two teams compete, then the winners compete, and so on.  - tournament! 
     
    *Each player is given (by me, WittyLewat) something to mimic (a noun and a descriptive word for it, ex: Red Rose, Wild Horse, Yellow Aramor, Dark Archer, etc)
     
    Each team has to guess what the opposing team is mimicking. The acting is made by one person at a time! -- 1 point for a full guess(both words), 0.5 for half guesses (1 word out of the two).
     
    *There's a maximum of 2 points/team/round.
     
    *In case of a tie, I (WittyLeWat) will mimic something myself for the two teams, and who guesses it (or half guesses), gets the point (or half a point).
     
    Mimicking rules:
     
    *There will be judges : WittyLeWat, Dark Demon, Rikstar (more may be added) 
     
    *NO TALKING!  This is the point of the game! All the descriptions will be RP-descriptive gestures related.
     
    --The acting-- 
    The acting is basically roleplaying actions and gestures, not typing descriptive things that one couldn't mimic physically!
    (example: To mimic a tree, *has branches and leaves* will get you disqualified! Instead, mimic using your "body": *stands tall* *spreads out her arms facing upwards* *leans from side to side as if the wind blows*) 
    . Make it too hard for them on purpose, or being too descriptive will get you disqualified! 
     
    *Each round lasts a maximum of 5 minutes per guess per team.
     
    *Each team has the right to ask 5 hint questions (they need to be approved by the judges before being answered) which will be answered by the one mimicking with yes or no (nods or shaking their head)
     
    *Each team has the right to 3 "final answers" per guess. If the final answer is correct and complete they will be awarded 1 point, if not, they will be notified that it's incomplete or incorrect, and given another chance.

    I will comment based on experience. I think I've been the only LHO banned for giving a wrong advice.
     
    Out of knowledge, I gave a wrong advice to a player. Basically the player asked me something. I commented something to Grido and received an answer which I linked with what the player mentioned me. Hence, I assumed  it as a new feature and told the player that I though there weren't issues. At the end of the day, it resulted that this wasn't a feature but a new bug.
     
    I got banned for that. I considered it very unfair at that time and still consider it unfair. I spent a lot of my time helping the game without anything in exchange and at the moment in which I made a mistake I got punished. No second chances, no discussion at all. Simply jailed. That sounds fair? Hell no. It would have been much better if they approached the issue by explaining me never to assume things (with Chew did after I got jailed) and then giving me and the player another chance.
     
    I don't agree on LHOs getting punished for making a small mistake. I think that if that person is trying to contribute to the game, giving of his time, in exchange of basically nothing (a couple of spells and that LHO appreciation thing is a joke seriously), he/she should be rewarded, not punished. If he/she made a mistake then speak to him/her, advice to not make the same mistake again. Lets not be hypocrite, pretend that we don't make mistakes, and try to punish him/her without giving another chance.
     
    If you want to make LHO position such a responsibility and you want to put LHOs accounts in risk of getting banned for any mistakes they make, then give them good rewards, and somehow pay for what LHOs do (by pay i mean ingame rewards). Technically if you pay someone for something, you can fire/punish him/her for any reasons.

    There is a difference between getting stuck, and getting lost. The description you pose for lost, is actually stuck. They aren't mutually exclusive, you might be lost and stuck at the same time, but it is worth noting that there is a difference. You can be lost, without being stuck, you can be stuck without being lost, and you can be both at the same time. Although, I'd argue that if you are stuck, it is more likely that you got lost, and now you are stuck, rather than being both stuck and lost. If you are stuck, you probably know your area quite well by now, so you're now only lost in the sense that you are in a new 'area' and you want to be in your other 'area', you're only lost by virtue of reference, you aren't lost by virtue of no longer knowing where you are, because you know your 'stuck in area' all too well by now.

    If you don't realise you are stuck, and instead still think you are lost, that's more dangerous, but there is no frustration of dead ends now, only the terror/joy of having no clue where you are.

    So I pose you a question - what does it mean to be lost?

    Only once you define what lost is, can you ask whether someone could truly choose to be lost just for the sake of being lost in and of itself, and whether or not you still think this person mad based on that.

    Is it worth knowing what you shouldn't?..this is circular. If you shouldn't know it, then no, you shouldn't know what you shouldn't know. The more pertinent question being, why shouldn't you know that piece of information?, and can you know you shouldn't know it before you do know it? and once you do know it, will you know you shouldn't?

    Lets theorise that you shouldn't know it, because it would be bad for you. Then you have to ask, what does it mean for something to be bad for you?

    It seems like in this case the bad thing about getting lost is a form of social cutting. You no longer match the rest of the blocks. Aka, you are defined as mad. You haven't prodded about whether the person themselves thinks they are mad or not. Arguably you can't be mad and think you are mad, so really this is about everyone else, not the person themselves?

    If a construct is built of parts, there are homogenous parts and in-homogenous parts, there is also the ability to recognise these two...or not to recognise them. To incorporate them into the construct, or not. Arguably, all things being fractal, some parts are part of a greater or lesser construct and it isn't a matter of choice to incorporate them, they force themselves into the construct as soon as you come into contact with them. They were always there, its just, now you know about them - and it is these things that would come into should we or shouldn't we know them, based on if we consider them good or bad, because they inherently have more power than our own theoretical meaning of choice. Which is, I think, what this comes down to...do you actually have any free will? Not freedom, that is something different and often confused with it.

    Your body is just as to blame as your mind, given it harvests what builds part of the construct. You like chocolate because it tastes nice, or because other people do, or because it looks nice, which is mostly to do with your experience of chocolate, and nothing to do with just picking it. So your construct traps you into a system based on a set of factors you feel like you chose, but which actually you didn't. You had the freedom to choose chocolate, but you definitely didn't have the free will to choose it.

    My opinion is that getting 'lost' for the sake of it, in my definition of the term...which I'm aware I haven't defined yet here for you...is an act of free will, and that in having free will, the general populance think you mad.

    What you should or shouldn't know is defined for you by the construct, and is defined by that as a version of what you should or shouldn't be, in order for it to have more power than you do.

    There was a request for an easy-to-use GIMP tutorial to make raw avatar scans upload-worthy, so I made one.
    GIMP is free software; go to [url="http://www.gimp.org/"]www.gimp.org[/url] to download.

    I start off by cropping and resizing in MS Paint, because it's waaaaay easier to do this in Paint. Then I go to GIMP for contrast and transparency.
    This tutorial is complete with all of the steps I use for my own uploads, so it will work for yours.


    Steps:

    Copy the image file to have a backup.
    Right-click the image file and select Edit, it opens in Paint by default.
    If you have lines or stuff (for example from lined paper) obscuring your drawing, use the eraser tool to get rid of them. Don't worry about the white space left behind; whiter-than-paper stuff goes away with contrast.
    If you need to stretch or compress the image to make it look better, now is the time to do so, for minimal quality loss. Either Select All (Ctrl+A) and drag the selection handles, or use the resize functionality.
    Select All (Ctrl+A) and drag to the top left corner to cut off extra space.
    Click outside of the selection.
    Drag the bottom right corner's handle to cut extra space off the canvas.
    Maintaining aspect ratio, resize to 100 pixels wide. If it turns out to be more than 160 pixels high at this point, undo (Ctrl+Z) and resize to 160 high instead.
    Using the bottom or side handle of the canvas, increase the space to 100x160 pixels.
    Select All (Ctrl+A) and drag the image to the center.
    It will certainly look weird at this point, having bars of white, but they will disappear with contrast in GIMP. Save (Ctrl+S) and close Paint.

    Right-click the image file --> Open With... --> gimp-2.6.exe (a newer version may be named differently)
    Image --> Mode --> Grayscale
    Colors --> Brightness-Contrast
    Increase the Contrast slider until the background is uniform, then fiddle with the brightness and contrast until it looks good. With my scanner's images, I normally have to change the contrast about 60 and the brightness about -30.
    Image --> Mode --> RGB
    Colors --> Colorify (NOT Colorize; they are different) --> Custom color --> enter "f1efd6". This is the color Mur specified; its purpose is to make the avatar blend better with the background of MD.
    If you didn't draw the MD letters somewhere on your image, add them now with the Text Tool. It's in the toolbox on the left; click it and click in the image where you want to add text, type in "MD", pick a font and size it.
    Layer --> Transparency --> Add Alpha Channel
    Select --> By Color --> click on the backgound, hit Delete (or cut with Ctrl+X).
    Save As... --> Select file type (by extension) --> GIF image --> (converting to indexed by default) Export --> type in author name in the comment box and Save.

    I realize it's a bit late to be saying this, but late is better than never.
     
     
    I really, really like this idea, and I think the time of 24 hours is most appropriate (longer is kind of unnecessary, since you can usually log in once a day. Although me being lazy and inactive, I'd make use of idling for a solid week if I could xD).
    Honestly, I wanted to be able to idle for 24h way back in mp4, and I just got used to things as they are.
     
    If people can idle for the full time until their login the next day, it would allow a community sparring grounds with casual members who are literally always there.
    Also, people could make themselves permanently PM-able and poke-able by idling in a sanctuary.
     
    Let's look at things this way - as I see it, there are 3 main continual draws to MD: combat, RP, and community. This has always been so. I myself was drawn by the rather unique PvP-only combat system (as such, adding respawning NPCs would be a _VERY_ bad idea), and have been a bit enchanted by the community.
    Item crafting, etc, just make it more like every generic MMO out there, which MD can't (or better said, shouldn't) really compete with, IMHO. It would need to have a LOT of work to approach combat or RP as a major draw.
     
    Boosting idle timers will directly increase targets for combat, and it cannot hurt RP. Making ingame contact easier across timezones certainly is a good thing.
     
     
    It's not like the server's overloaded with people, and people who don't want to fight stay in sanctuaries anyway, so I see no reason not to implement this.
    Seriously, there are far more empty aramors than actual people in the realm.

    more ideas (as they were passed down to me):
     
    I have an idea about a montly ”event” day: something like ”day of the tree”. basically, on that day there will be no collecting of herbs and lumber, but everyone who wants to, can visit the community garden house, click on it and give up, say, 10% of their AP. one click per person per day. each click increases the regen of the resource by a tiny percent. 
    as i understand it, this will not help much except for locations with a high number (for example, 100 herbs), but its more of a ”community”day, just like volunteers are planting trees in real life. (Mp4)   My idea to make MD a better place to be is: Resoursce sacrificing.  :D
    It's just the same as sacrificing with creatures. You get stats per resource that you sacrifice. This could be the fighting skills, maybe volition, and also to get some extra max VP(like from an expansive resource) or max vitality. I would say to make new points at which you sacrifice resources, prefereble deeper in a land. So that you have some advantages when you are in a certain land. And that players are more walking around in MD. Each different resource sacrifice altar will give bonusses to certain skills. Like when you get 0.01 attack per resource, you will get 0.02 attack per resource at one of the altars.
    I believe that this would make the realm more active, since there is actually a good reason to collect resources. Lands will get more active at defending their resources. And there will be more tool/resource tradings across the lands.
    Better idea, instead of you getting volition from some resources. You must use volition to sacrifice resources. More walking activity (Mp 5)

    I agree tokens need to be changed.

    But why not simply add a negative effect to tokens? Hmm? Let them balance themselves.


    Place a debuff effect on each token on the creature of 3-5% of its total stats (including token effects). Pin this to the % slider. This debuff would stack with each token, and could maybe be different for each type of token.

    This would eventually cap the creature's power. For 5%, it takes 19 tokens for max power, at about 14.7 times the creature's original power, assuming each token adds double the creature's original stats.
    Graph: y = (2x + 1)(1 - .05)^(2x)
    x is the number of tokens; y is the overall power.


    Also, on every tokened creature, reduce the strength of all other tokened creatures in play, by 10%, and by 1% per token on it (multiplicatively, so .9*.99^x).
    This would have inverse relation on the % slider; at 100% a creature is not affected, at 0% the creature is maximally weakened.

    This would allow otherwise useless tokens to have a disruption value.


    EDIT: Clarification. The debuffs should apply after all auras (but still calculating on pre-aura stats), so that TSs could counter tokens.

    Earlier today I had asked Grido if he would revive me. He said that he would, but there would be a price associated with the revival.

    The price was 35 GC. Why?

    Because the "party" that had killed me, has threatened to kill Grido if he revived me for any less.

    Now, I believe that this is extortion and extortion is illegal.

    It seems my presence in the realm is wanted. I shall return to it more frequently, so.

    Before we begin any plans, however, I would like to hear from all persons who still consider their characters part of the Children of the Eclipse. Please post days and times (server time) you plan to be active in MagicDuel.

    I will be active around 04:00 - 06:00 most weekdays, perhaps a bit longer on Fridays. I will be available from 20:00 - 10:00 (the next day) or so on weekends.

    The purpose of getting these times is to coordinate actions and events. Please let me know what will work for you.

    That was waaay too fast; over and done with in less than 3 hours.

    If you could locally control time, with permanent effects, why not just turn it back to have the fetus not exist in the first place, and collect both rewards?


    I'm very surprised Dragual would give up so easily.
