  1. I work a lot now. Like, almost 60 hours a lot, now. Mostly due to covid but once everything at work is sorted I'll be ok. I have a tendency to ramble and a lot that remember me will remember that, specifically. Just wanted to pop in here and say that I miss you. This place was of great inspiration for me and the bug has kind of hit me again. I miss it. I do have a couple of questions: Who runs the MDA? Is there a vault of avvies I can look into? I seem to be missing one, in either I gave it away a long time ago or it has been pulled. Amoran gave it to me. And, I guess, lastl

    RIP Gateway Island?

Let me make something of an analogy: I used to run a minecraft alpha server with a pretty steady 10-20 people on it at any moment and a bunch of regulars. It was mainly freebuild and spleef, which drew all the attention, but had some other interesting game modes as minecraft added more commands being zombie or lava survival, CTF, and mazes. As I continued to explore new options for the server I had the idea to make an adventure mode. The premise was that you would start in a purgatory underground area and face some rather trivial challenge to escape to the earth layer, where you would face two

    RIP Gateway Island?

does the gateway have a combat exit still? i remember reading about the heads exit being removed, but potentially it can be replaced with a series of progression fights aimed to challenge new players. perhaps we shift the basic creatures (barren and grasan) , to the island as well, and set small challenges, nothing major, just basic combat ideas. this would allow them to dip their toes into thinking about combat, provide a solo way off the island, but also allow returning vets to steam through it and leave if that's what they want. upon beating the challenges an item could be granted that allo

  4. Because of the excitement caused by yesterday's find, I am making a quest rewarded with a WP! The find is different from the topic of this thread, but it started there...in ''European'' demonology, there are six types of demons. The uppermost demons inhabit an area known as the ‘fiery’ (diapyron), the second category the ‘airy’ (aerion), the third the ‘earthly’ (chthonion), the fourth the ‘watery’ (fresh and salt: hydraion and enalion), the fifth the ‘sub-earthly’ (hypochthonion) and the sixth the ‘light-hating and insensible’ (misophaes and dysaisthêton). The MP4 Problem

@Muratus del Mur feedback is welcome. Speaking to some of the lower Mindpowers there is a distinct problem with MP4 currently. There are not too many MP4 players around and this limits fighting and other things that people do with their same Mindpower. Many people rush to MP4 so they have some more players to play with, but then get stuck there for a while attempting to farm enough to progress. I think this is a big problem currently and I am not sure about a good solution. Originally I was thinking we move back to the old system where all mindpowers could attack others. But the

    The MP4 Problem

This is an important issue. I liked several suggestions here, the solution I think, is an amalgam of your propositions: - Allow cross mind power fighting - Attacking higher mind power big honor benefit - Attacking lower mind power huge honor loss (thus encouraging people giving wins to lower MPs) - Cap the heat given in such cross mind power fights (so someone doesn't overflow newbies) - (?) Possibly handicap higher mind power player in stats, token, creature freezes, in a gradual way (mp6 vs mp5 no issues, mp5 vs mp4 smaller issue, mp5 vs mp3 huge issue)

  7. I am about to do something crazy, but you can influence my plan here. I want to create an automated way in for all, or some, alliances, that will consider only things that are relevant for that ally. For example, Woodcutters guild should have such a backdoor for anyone with the right woodcutting skill. War alliances should have a backdoor to allow in people based on their land loyalty. You can suggest or demand (depeding on your tag and role) actual setups for this. This will also be a way to infiltrate and disband, but also to revive disbanded guilds. I will use th

  8. To build on what Ledah says here and Mur's original idea of backdoors into an alliance, we could give a sort of multi-citizenship/multi-layered alliance. Basically differentiate guilds and alliance, but have them be a part of the same thing. The guilds can be where you gain the backdoor and anyone can get in with no input other than their own actions, if they meet the parameter set they will automatically be invited to join the guild. The alliance would work as they do today, by invite only and are more centered towards land affairs- not tool/resource based tasks or tasks related to the backdo

    The MP4 Problem

If this was the case, it could be that when a higher mind power level attacks a lower mindpower level they are only able to use 0% slider. Even more, you could make it that their tokens have no affect on the battle. Both of these compensate for their relatively higher stats and higher level creatures. Those two alone are not exactly enough to even the playing field though. You could even consider making it so any creatures that the lower mp level player could not use in the fight due to level restrictions are frozen for the higher mp level player. It is so easy to gloss over what the

    RIP Gateway Island?

I completely disagree that the paper cabin entrance was dependent upon players, it was only encouraged for LHOs to take part in the new player experience, there was nothing you needed of any player to advance. I don't think it has relevance to the island but I am of the opinion that the paper cabin story was much more compelling to me wanting to play the game, and the island is lacking of a story of any sort. Maybe the island could benefit from a story as has been stated in this thread.

  13. Its all ablut the attitude. An older player thst returns to see whats new, chat aith old friends, etc, without any real intention to play would find the island frustrating. A real player old or new that wants to discover the island secrets will find it fun challenge. We need to decide this ancient issue about making things convenient for old vets that no longer have the enthusiasm to actually play, or to keep things even harder for them. The way i see things should be, the island should have different ways for old and new. If a vet becomes stuck there, porting them out is a way

    RIP Gateway Island?

the game needs to hold people mechanically first and foremost , so that they have enough thing's to do while they get into the community. currently we have 2 main systems in place that could do this. combat, and crafting, neither of which are fleshed out enough to be a main focus for players to get into. combat: this tends to be what is probably the main draw, collect creatures, fight them, level them up, and feel a sense of progression as your account get's stronger with the more work you place into it. with the current player base, this is very difficult, they can collect creatures, an

I think the key to saving GWI is to make the mainland look far more enticing for new players that have stepped upon the Island. I would suggest the return of the Adventure Log and for us to RP. We can write the setting in which we will be creating a story within. Gateway Island will be a part of this. We can utilize the figure across the water from the Obelisk as well as the figure in the stone wall at the Docks. The desire to be a part of the Adventure Log is enough for new players to put in the work to be a part of it as well as making them feel they are part of a wonderful in

    RIP Gateway Island?

now that i think about it, the story with the cube and the little girl was a hell of an intro. it was building a lot of suspense, while the island is quite peaceful by comparison what if we add the elements of a crisis there? like, aramors being assembled by unknown entities, boarding ships to who knows where; or, the island being enshrouded in a 'cloud of viscosity' with each passing day, threatening to become occult from the mainland or something

  17. I like the idea of 'automated' path to (some*) alliances. But alliances with that feature shouldn't have 'kick member' option, it should simply be 'if these terms are met, you can maintain the badge'. It would solve many social problems we're having around here and I think it would be in line with MD context. *I would implement that scenario on a case by case basis. Ideally, I would see this for every alliance, but it's hard to project automated terms for most of alliances outside of guilds. For instance, how to automate Seekers of Enlightenment invite, when it was mostly research based

  18. every backdoor into an ally will come with benefits and sacrifices. Thinking about how to do this, will bring up important concepts and ways of using a25. For example, i think such a backdoor could benefit from a global counter, to prevent it being used too often, or maybe a check for the ally state, to work only if ally is disbanded...things that do not exist right now, but i will code them, and/or document how its done. Alliances and guilds should have such backdoors, at least in my opinion. Someone asked, what if i have 100 woodcutting but i am in GG, does that make me

  19. I don't have a problem with this sort of change. If I were to make a change myself, I would just make 2 tiers of alliances. You have the 'actual' alliance (badge, land affiliation etc.) and a guild. A guild would be a way to express interest in joining an alliance, would also allow people to show their interest in multiple alliances/what they stand for without having to commit to one fully. If you give alliances more authority/info on what they are supposed to represent (lands mechancis etc.) would be a good way to disseminate that infromation. Requiring a guild be made, run and proven us
