    Grand Duke of the East

On Day 95, Year 15, at Sage's Keep, @Chewett was made Grand Duke of the Lands of the East and King of Marind Bell. This is the first time someone in the realm is elected to rule two lands at the same time. An official minute of the event is located at the following topic: Following the unprecedented ceremony, the Demon of the East has recognized Chewett's rulership over the Tribunal part of the Lands of the East as seen in Announcement 4963. This also marks the first time kingship tools are made available for the Lands of the East. Prior to this election, the East had seen a couple of (somewhat unsuccessful) claims to power from Granos to Eon and Shadowseeker, then Sunfire and finally Pipstickz. Chewett went a different route, though: he met directly with all interested parties and managed to gather their support. It was a very clever move in terms of strategy and timing. Interestingly enough, the concept of a Dukedom in the East was proposed before by Pipstickz, but his idea did not gain enough traction at the time. With all this happening only a few days prior to the very anticipated 15th Anniversary, it almost looks as if the birthday is already happening. I look forward to seeing (and documenting) the changes that this new dual rulership shall bring to our realm.

Today Marind Bell and the East, along with notable VIP's of MagicDuel were present at a ceremony where the citizens have voiced their support for a King for Marind Bell, and a Grand Duke for the East. This group, run with the support of the citizens shall guide both lands. Regular meetings will be held with citizens to address issues with both lands, and the combined issues. The first of these meetings including an appointment of these two land dukes will occur some time after the Anniversary. In the meantime all citizens are welcome to come talk to myself. Thank you to all those who supported me in this endeavour as it has taken much effort. Those Present at the meeting The following people were present at the meeting and voiced their support publicly. Citizenship Accepted!!!

Hello everyone! I am so incredibly excited to be considered part of Marind Bell! It is the land I by far spent the most time in before my slumber. Before land loyalty was a thing. I have always felt more at home at MBthan elsewhere. I love that MB is such an open land yet shows just the surface of all of its many secrets to any who enter. I believe that membership in MB means an obligation to seek knowledge and provide assistance to new players, after all, that is why our threshold has visible gates. I am truly excited to continue my story in MB, to continue my research and to learn more of this realm. Thabk you for having the faith and trust in me to vote for me! steno

    Map Identity Problem

This is an incredible feature worthy of being placed in the wish shop, but it has its own issues, in particular, the crowded places problem. I've observed this during Chewett's cake party and Steno's April Fool's event. If there are few people in one spot (1-3 players) it looks fine, but more than that, they just cover each other. Mur's solution to this was to increase the intervals between the colored dots that represents the players, but it creates another problem where one can't actually point out where that player is. I may have a solution for this, it follows the same mechanics, only this time, if there are two (or three) or more players in a location, say the GoE, it will become a shaded place on a map (I used orange because, well, Mur) the more people there are, the bigger this shade will become. An example image: GoE at this point will have several players on it, hence the size, while MDP will have fewer than four or so. Now, when you hover the cursor over the shaded section, it will display the coordinates along with the playernames who are presently in that location. See below: This is just a mockup, the shade color can be changed, the colored dots can even be beside the playernames in the box to distinguish what Mindpower they belong to. This will be easier for those who purchased this feature and can be very useful for a plethora of different things, or if you exhaust your locate spell, too. Let me know what you think.

    MagicDuel-Histories and Legends

So... I was thinking, since there are a lot of older accounts being reactivated (so much so that Mur had to make an announcement about ancient powers, lol) that a LOT has happened in the realm of MagicDuel. As some of the ads for the game even proclaim: "We never reset"! I don't know very much about what has happened in the twelve years that I've been gone. The Adventure Log is pretty awesome, but it is a lot. I think this would be really handy for old-new players as well as brand new players! The accessibility of lore helps immerse new players. So I wanted to propose a contest, as MD seems to have quite a few authors. Pick one of your favorite events in the history of MD that you witnessed. Try to write a short story-a cliff notes version of what happened if you will-of that event. I am unsure what the reward of this contest will be. I will likely give the winner a silver coin as well whatever else I can cobble together. The contest will end 3/13/20. The winner will be decided by me and a mystery judge. Try to keep the versions of the stories clean, obviously. Also try to keep secrets out of stories, unless they are imperative for the tale being told. The winner will receive a creature of the 14th anniversary as awarded by Aia!

    Thoughts on the Avatars

Hello, I have been thinking about this for awhile. Mainly because I came back to the game with the avatar feature already being unlocked. I remember it being the FIRST thing that I really wanted to get, because it individuated my account. In those days, your avatar did not get sent back to the vault after inactivity (otherwise I'd have a really cool avatar, I don't remember it, but it must have been really cool). Something I realized while playing on my alt is that it is hard to get to the avatar option (unless he's been buying in the wrong category...). He has spent probably 11 credits with the sole purpose of moving through unique features to get to the avatar option. He still isn't there. Granted he has hasn't spent any money yet. This is important because choosing an avatar is one of the greatest ways to increase fidelity of a player to a game. To make that player invested in the game. I literally helped a friend write his Master's thesis on this. In his experiment he had taken a basic MMORPG game (with the help of some coder friends). He had (I think his n for each group was like 30) 30 people play the game without selecting an avatar, and 30 play with selecting an avatar. I can't find his published thesis. But I do remember that he got statistically significant results that the people who selected an avatar answered the survey saying that they were interested in playing longer. Now I think his alpha was .05, so it was a typically lenient study. However I think that says a lot. Now, since I couldn't find his study, and I don't have free access to psychology journals anymore, this is the only study I could find. https://cyberpsychology.eu/article/view/4340/3412. It supports the same hypothesis from my friend's master's thesis. Though we can draw multiple other conclusions from the results of this study, such as perhaps letting players choose their border (such as Chewett unveiling the old "dark border" might actually be worth an investment, ie letting player's pay in shop for changing color schemes might actually be something people would want <I really think they would want this, if for no other reason than their screenshots look different from everyone else's>) Now all of this to say is that I think that when players unlock that 5 credit bonus on GI, that an avatar should be one of the first things they should get. No, I don't think they should unlock it within that 5 credits. But I think having it be one of the things they can SEE at the bottom of the page and it plainly says "Avatar" on it (I don't know because I still have yet to unlock it) might give them something to strive for. Then they might either use free credits (which helps the game even if they quit), pay (same outcome but better), or do both and keep playing (obviously the better outcome). Putting the avatar option in sight might be a good choice. TLDR: Move Avatar option up in shop so new players can see it, not buy it at first. Click the hyperlink, scroll down to the conclusion section of the paper and see why. Answer the poll as well to see what MD community thinks. If you select other, please explain in your post why. Better yet, explain in a post about your choice regardless, give voice and more depth to your answers.

    Weekly silver

Mirus wins the silver! Dishonorable mention to Dark Demon, maybe we will roast you some day. This week I want to hear what your favorite character from a book is, and why! Also if spoilers be kind to mark it as such by using the spoiler tag, the eye icon in the formatting menu above the reply box Credit to Steno for the idea, using this one because I wanted to do similar, but yes if you have ideas you can PM them to me and I might use them some week. I just want them to be lower effort, no requiring an essay or something, you can see past ideas to see the theme. ____ Well my favorite character is Walter O'Dim from The Dark Tower series, because he is the main antagonist at least in the first book

    MagicDuel-Histories and Legends

For me the event that i rmb most is the 10th anniversary of MD in april of 2015. It was a wonderful time spanning 10days. The first day, was a day of supreme hyperactivity, where we were throwing items at each other, lots of 10th anniversary cakes and teas (they keep real well, i still have a bunch i saved in my inventory ) There was a heat war, which i participated in. we were split into teams and the goal was to store as much heat into our team's clickable item. my team's one was located in necrovion, and it was my first time exploring the land. There was also a rhyme off, were wits and words won one wishpoint. Day 2 was a Day of Royalty, about queens and combat. it was hosted by nimrodel, who had a "queen of sheba wants" quest and a combat tournament Day 3 was the Day of megaseedwalk by rophs, where we had stories by the oak, it was by rophs if i remember correctly, someone was being a storyteller, we had poetry at the willow, where we shared poems about who we love in MD Day 4 was the Day of finding yourselves. Where the first 2 labyrinth quests were introduced, venturing into the labyrinth, i often had to find myself in many ways! Day 5 was the Day of the past, where we remembered people and events that made an impact on us (quite like what this post is about!) Day 6 was the Day of the Future where we looked to the future (this period in 2015 also coincided with quite a few new things that were being done. The storymode was removed slightly before the anniversary, role play items were also introduced slightly before that, and with it item combining. Also, the givemask spell was released, oh it was fun confusion for awhile!) Days 7-10 did not have titles as far as i could search, but that does not make them any less exciting! Day 7 had treasure hunt in loreroot, design a cake, and "carve a path" as well "sing it" events held at bob Day 8 had a procession for molquert, who had passed due to his role becoming relatively less relevant Day 9 had a derranged play, which i remember fondly, I believe i stayed up till 5am to partake in the play, which might have helped with me being able to play a graveyard well in a derranged play. Day 10 had somemore treasure hunts and concluded the anniversary celebrations. It was 5years ago, and due to timezone differences, i often had to stay up to the wee hours to participate, but it was all worth it and i had unique experiences that I never found ever again anywhere else

Greetings, fellow citizens! I know that I just joined your land, but I realized that I don't many of you very well. I made this scavenger hunt for work, for the school I work at. I encourage you to complete this (I will be giving 1 silver to anyone who does complete this--I don't have very much silver at the moment, but I will get it to you as soon as I can). I think this will help me get to know you all a little better, which is a goal that I personally have. First off: I made this for children and families that I already knew, so it may be really easy. Secondly: please keep personal identifiable info off of this, for obvious reasons. See my submission below (I blanked out identifiable info already). Oh, awesome! I'll gladly accept a wishpoint. Thanks! I had a lot of fun writing this and I encourage everyone to take part in it. In my opinion, it should definitely be made a permanent quest! That way we can create a nice repository of past events in some sort of Archivist fashion.

For all of those still interested in this quest. You can still write for this quest and submit it here(tag me or pm if you do so I see it), however the above rewards will have already been given so your reward will be less because of lateness (though it could be equal to any of the above if quality is superb).

Below are the logs for the 1st annual April Fools Joke contest! The rules were simple, tell 5 dad-jokes (as you can see in the logs... we just kind of moved into any kind of joke). Most jokes that I saw are underlined (before it was too much for PC to handle) Ways to win: every person should vote for their top two jokes by responding below. It should look like this (example post) 1. Steno: What is the loudest sport? --->>>Racketball 2. Mur: Have you heard the joke about silence? --->Neither have I. This way I know who said what joke and which was first and second. For each time the same joke (possibly change to person, depending on entries) gets picked, they get points. 1st place is worth 2 points, 2nd place 1 point. The winner will get a random reward, the 2nd place will also get a reward. All participants shall receive something (may take me awhile) Voting will close on April 13th, 2020. <log>[01/04/20 22:59] :Steno sits and quickly refreshes himself on his jokes and rules of contest[01/04/20 23:00] Steno:5...4...3...2..1... I previously proposed a ticketing style system to improve how it works. Mur previously agreed with me and said I should go ahead with it. In speaking with him today he decided to make this announcement without any forwarning when I started the conversation with asking what his plans were for LHO. I do not know if he wants me to code anything for MD, but I am very happy and want to remake the LHO. I think its foolish to "just remove them" like this. I do not agree with this decision and was not consulted. I have raised that concern privately with him too.

I can certainly create and add of more clickies from elements already within scenes. If thou hast an idea for an element within a scene that should be turned into a clicky, let me know, and I shall create of it. Creating of new elements from new artwork were also possible, if the new artwork were provided.

It's hard to pick a single favorite. I'll tell you about my favorite among recent readings instead: Mr. Nakata from Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore. He's a solitary old man that , due to a mysterious event in his childhood, lost all his memories along with the ability to read and think "properly". As a kind of collateral effect, he suddenly noticed he could talk with cats, among other things. I can't quite pin down why I like him so much. I guess it's partially due to some sort of inherent wisdom/complexity behind his actions and thoughts (even though on the surface he's seen as a simpleton) and also his way of seeing and dealing with the ways of the world. Interestingly, this book sometimes reminded me of ideas and memories that somehow, in my head, are intrinsically connected to MD.

    MagicDuel-Histories and Legends

Here's my attempt: The Dominion Journey To celebrate MD’s highly symbolic 7th birthday, Mur presented us with a challenging quest/journey that would take place in his Dominion [Ann. 2277]. To put things into perspective: he had forcefully taken rulership over the East [Ann. 1689] around Year 5 and, only on the occasion of a Boss Heads Contest edition [Ann. 1849], had opened his lands [Ann. 1862] to a select group of contestants. From time to time, he would also summon players to his Throne Hall so he could deal with their requests without being bothered by others [Ann. 2104]. Therefore, this was the very first time his personal lands would be “open to the general public”. On the occasion of the previous birthday, we had already seen a significant expansion of the Lands of the East [Ann. 1789] as a new path after the Temple of the Void (back then simply referred to as the temple, if I remember correctly) up to The Gate of the Bored [Ann. 1817] was uncovered. This was already very exciting, but now there would be big challenges with even bigger rewards! The rules were simple: 8 gate keepers would guard 8 locations. If we failed any of their challenges, we needed to return to the beginning and face all guards again, and sometimes they would give us brand new challenges. Beat all guards and you win! Simple, right? But in practice beating all of them in a row was extremely difficult! The first guard was I am Bored, stationed at the Gate of Bored (who would’ve guessed?). After completing his task, we would enter the Dominion and face the infamous Deathwhisper Tunnel, where one would find a guard at each step taken. I cannot remember the exact order, but my guess would be Isabella Finch at the tunnel entrance, then Falronn, Kyphis, Windy, Mya Celestia and then Brulant inside the tunnel. Finally, one could take a breath and a few steps after exiting the tunnel before facing Liberty, the final guard. The challenges ranged from doable to very difficult, but always fun and sometimes thought-provoking as well. A lot of players would get sent back to the beginning over and over again, but most persisted because the journey was one of those rare events that managed to attract and unite the realm as a whole: everyone was having loads of fun. As people passed the last gate keeper, they got to enter the infamous Throne Hall and wait for the others there, all while enjoying the company of the Demon of the East. It took around 6 days for the first 10 winners to be declared [Ann. 2286]. After that, the gates were closed and the winners got a puzzle medal and either a custom reward or one of the newly created drach melodic charms [Ann. 2283], which could be used to put Drachorns in the Drachorn Lair to sleep long enough so one of their riches could be taken from their treasure. The first generation of charm holders had access to extremely valuable tools, such as kill and revive items. In addition, another group of players also received rewards for reaching the last gate [Ann. 2298]. Finally, rewards were sent to the gate keepers for their hard work. The Dominion Journey was finally over and, with it, MD’s 7th Birthday festivities. This was one of the greatest birthdays I ever witnessed in my years around this realm. Note: I tried my best to use announcements as references in an attempt to provide “historical accuracy”. I invite others who were around back then to contribute with more information if they like. I believe this is a great opportunity for us to create an Archive of old and also upcoming events.

Honestly, I think it should be removed as the boots in the Vale of Oblivion already gives too much Action Points, this will just be another non-functioning baggage and will just confuse and frustrate people with their hard-earned heat. I vote for it to be removed.

At first I didn't know why I loved them so much. I am a Nolan fan, sure, but then I realized there's more to it. All these movies have beautiful self narrations. And I'm a sucker for those 😛 P.S: you chose a wonderful topic for quarantine lol everyone has a ton of options now

    Toilet paper

To be truly offensive we would have to have a giant game of tag in MD. The person that was ‘it’ had some sort of plague, with a countdown on them where they had to pass it to someone else otherwise they die. The last person who has it when the event is over gets to die for a week or something. (Followed by a community event where we all bring flowers to resurrect that player) Now that, I would consider very fun, but also very offensive. Meh, just a thought that occurred to me. ailith, did you mean Big Roll Challenge, or Bog Roll

    MagicDuel-Histories and Legends

If we're talking about events that have impressed us and left a mark, I guess I've witnessed a few...but I like the little events that make up my MD experience. Like when I first saw the Field of Fear scene. There was a jumplink provided and the mood panel invited us for some tea somewhere, so I said 'What the heck, ok'. As soon as I used the jumplink, I was in the middle of those pulsating spheres and I was taken aback. Of course, it was all in my mind - they're not animated, so they're not actually pulsating. But I imagined it, and I tried to understand what the heck it was I was seeing. They all looked like elemental eggs; bubbles of fear and anger that emerged from the ground and slowly took to the air. Above the scorched field, countless spheres of...fear? A truly dreadful place. And then, I came back to my senses to see Necrovians in the middle of their tea ceremony, and it was so nice and pleasant that you could almost see some old ladies enjoying their 5 o'clock tea. I thought 'Damn, these Necros...'
