Viscosity Thread

My thoughts as a new player: Viscosity is extremely annoying and seems to only discourage exploring, which seems to be the main point of Magic Duel (at least at my stage in the game). All of the early quests I am working on are requiring me to explore new places, which I am really enjoying. However, most of these places are costing 40 AP to move one screen and I regenerate 30 every 12 minutes. So, I can move 3-4 screens per hour. While I was warned that Magic Duel is a slower paced game than I'm used to, this seems a bit ridiculous. Especially when the quests keep wanting me to go places where I have to wade through the viscosity (like the MDA Gardens). Honestly, Magic Duel is already a bit frustrating for new players to figure out (since it's so different). I'm planning on continuing to figure it out, but I can see a lot of people giving up on it when they get stuck while exploring.

Ok. I'll give you the same feedback I gave Stipple some time ago: this is the type of quest/thing/whatever that I despise the most (sorry Fyrd, I know your intentions were good). You can never be fully objective and usually when it comes to such things, even if you try you really cannot. Especially if all you know about a person is just what you have heard from others. Unless they are straight, provable facts (like: player X banned Mur) the info are quite useless. All you bring is your opinion, occasionally spiced with some facts. I would have appreciated more something like a history/chronic of someone's facts. Not this "a**kissing". I can give you numerous examples of players that are now considered legends just because their "bad deeds" were swept under the carpet* and only the good things are remembered. This is not right. A person is characterized by all his/her deeds. I felt crippled when I received a really good characterization (thank you Stipple, I know that your intentions were also good ) because that person was not me. The characterization was given a make up but by doing that it lost the "real me". But since you are all decided to do this, I will dare to give you a suggestion: instead of writing such thing, it would be more interesting (and a lot more fun - at least for me) to interview the persons you are writing about. You learn a lot about someone by reading their answers (especially if the questions are well chosen). Just my 3 cents. LE:forgot the * * - as long as I will be playing I will make sure to present the "hidden" deeds of the legends . It makes them more...humans cause they certainly were not gods

Moreover, with new MP6 rules there will be less MP6s to heal new pleyers before they learn how to live without permanent healing. Would it be possible to make regen timer 3x faster for MP3s? It would make it clear that MP3 is learning game basics and world exploration level.

    The Mirror

note: regarding uour comments to the deleted posts. i read them both. Show of force 3 will be mqde public next. The Mirror Thoughts too shattered to rhyme to find their path in such short time I'll tell them in my own rhythm in a poetry without its poem Excuse the clues i left behind The riddles that i missed to bind These are things one of a kind That only some will seek to find So here it goes.. Once upon no time... There was a guardian of time, not a being of some sort, or a monster in a fort, nor a wonder chest but an object at its best. This guardian that i tell, was just a mirror on no wall. It was so perfect that it had, only itself and all its pride, nothing to fear nor flaws to hide. So I was saying.. it mirrored all and trapped their imperfections, gave them back just empty reflections. It swallowed all that passed in front, be it object life or be it void, like a dark sun that has died, it gave them back just empty light, nothing escaped whatever they tried. This perfect mirror trapped it all, nothing around to see anymore. It was alone and lost, like a body without its ghost, no reflections left to tell if anything was left at all. No time has passed since then at all, since time was guarded most of all. The things it trapped tried to escape. They tried to show the mirror feelings, reason, beauty, but the mirror had no ears, no fears to fear, nor eyes to look, at the reflections that it took. A giant eye to see it all, and so it did, it saw it all. It stood alone, alone and blind, trying to remember what was there once to find. It slowly turned into terrible horror, the idea that there might actually be not even the mirror. It looked around but there was nothing. just pure perfection without expression. It might have gone a second or a million years untill it happend, no history to write if no time to bend, to start or to end, but at some moment the mirror decided it had no purpose since it blinded. It gave up existing, forgot about the trapped time she was guarding and in all her sadness and furry became to doubt, it lost faith in its own mirrorish clarity, it became blurry. Time was waiting, its what it does. It found a tiny fraction of itself, so small that it couldn't even be considered time at all. It sent it out on a mission, to cause havok and destruction, to cause a crack, an imperfection, and so it did at times suggestion. When the mirror realised its first flaw, it had the proof was waiting for, to give it up, to end it all. More longer moments followed soon, time released its many faces, shattered all in an infinity of pieces. Time was cruel and did not forget, the "time" it lost in its imprisonment. It took the mirror shards so far away, that some forgot what they once were, time escaped, ran fast, very angry and still runs faster day by day. Within its dieing moments, the mirror saw the reflections in each of its shards. Like lonely lost eyes of what was once a great power, they filled the world they once devoured. With their now flawed and shattered view, they took a humble look of what was for them now new. It started for the first time to see itlself, not in whole, but in puzzles of it all. The mirrors wish was now fulfilled, to see the things it only dreamed, to see the reflection of its own face, at least small views of its power, infinity and grace. It now was sure she actually existed. It took to die to see it was alive, It took a flaw for perfection to arrive. It took to lose its purpose, no more prisoner, to achieve something new, we call it now freedom in our view. It lost however something dear, replaced oneness with a fear. Scattered and lost, forever doomed by the curse time cast, it fears to forget, each and every piece that still reflect. So each eye keeps looking, searching, trying, digging deep in reality to see and remember what it means to BE. And so my story ends, almost.. What happend next? try to connect yourself the dots. They danced and danced two by two, just enough the first sees the other too. Paired together but still not united, they float in time, forever divided. Peaking at reflections to see others imperfections, to find their pair, they search their match with utmost despair. Its said that once a shard finds its partner, they both forget their initial purpose forever. You wonder why? Its very simple, just face two mirrors at eachother, to see the two already found, what other shards still look around. What could it be, two hide in two shards of infinity? It is there all, for them to see, to leave this world and find their own infinity. They will keep time away, find the greatness they once were, seeing all untill theire nothing there. They will do the same again, mirroring their past, recreate eternity untill one cracks. Time will escape, will run away, its a future action it already did, shards can't foresee this amazing deed. The two shards unite, becoming one, stepping the steps of the first one gone. Unavoidably they'll fall apart, shattered shards in a dead sun, launching time in its long run. Never ends and never will, time runs fast while shards stand still. They are always doomed to fail, plutting time back in its jail, shards can never be so fast to stop the future cause its past. Now I'll rest to think it all, rest my back to a strong wall. Yet.. There are some reasons still left to hunt, my feeling deep inside my heart...what if the mirror that once were was nothing else but too a pair. Some say its us that shards are now, .. I say why not rocks, or socks or planks, or the multitude of plants, why not.. afterall their're all, just fractions of the whole. They see it too, and share it all, rebuilding universe before the fall. From smallest grain to biggest star Everything still roots that far.. . .... PART 2 ..... . The Empty Wall I stand in front an empty wall And wonder what would happen To have there hanging all alone The mirror that once shattered An unborn world within a world Cruel chaser of all imperfection A chest of secrets never told No shards of incomplete reflection I stay there staring at the void And demons start to whisper I close my eyes and lose my mind As letters start to glitter Its written there on empty wall Where mirrors never see These things now keep to crawl Beyond the reasoning in me I see whispers turn to shapes To symbols never seen before I see my image how it fades It is the price if you explore To help my mind to stay on track I'd give the mirror its own wall A place to hide its unseen back Somewhere to hang so it won't fall I'd take its time and let it go To free the mirror of its burden If it casts its entropy on me My fate will become certain. My dreams begin to end i see But something feels not right The demons I no longer see Perhaps I won the fight.. I see a stranger staring shocked I feel a wall behind my back Unseen something keeps me locked I can't believe I see a crack Mur -- The story continues so does its relation to my character and md realm, but for now enjoy what it is.

    Magic

Most new players enter to this marvolus realm and stay there, going through story mode, batteling, Role playing, questing, and everything else this realm has to offer. After about a week, this player will start to wonder : "OK, I've seen the duel in Magic Duel (and it rocks!) but I haven't seen the magic!" a wiser player might answer : "this is because it is an advanced topic, and not meant for early stages." That is the simplest way to put it, for eventhough it is simple for someone to get it at this early stage, explaning the process and how it is needed and heat and how principles affect it... I will, disregarding how hard it may be, attempt to explain this. At first, we must all agree that Magic is of two types (the regular form, not of RPCs or LHOs) the first is that that regenerates every 2 weeks, the second is the one that gives off a 'limited' number of spells... Magic in general depends on : -Memories\ feelings -Principals -Heat "Heat is the stuff being manipulated here. Principles are the tools used to do that. The specific collection and sequencing of words/thoughts/memory-images used to do that can use word-metaphors from many walks of life besides "spells"" said Fyrd Argentus so theses three factors affect the spells in this way : -the memory/feelings is how you are going to remember the spell and thus say it (you can't say a spell you don't remember!) -Principals affect spells, so a person with a high knowledgy of the 'darkness principal' (which is for hiding) would do better at a Ghost spell than one who has no knowlede -and finally, heat is what you use to do the spell, you have to use up the power inside you and let out that heat, otherwise, you have no power, and how do you expect to manipulate things with no power? Now the main difference in 'limited' spells and 'regeneratable spells' is, and as explained by Mur : "Normal information can be copied indefinably without being lost (xerox style). Complex thoughts, such as those for "spells" you can't multiplicate simply because you don't have either the "reading" device nor the "ink" to write a copy. Imagine to make a xerox copy of a 100$ bill...some things look similar, some things will never be similar. What happens in this case is that each copy of that sort of thought is still connected to the one that created it initially. That, in terms of MD dynamics, would mean that players mastering a permanent spell should be able to give away limited casts of it and each cast should drain them of heat as long as it exists. This will scatter the spell across multiple players but not duplicate its original power/source. This is not to far from how things are now ..but not with spells in md..with items. Items that create items, such as pickles and candy, have a limited amount that can be created, based on how many are already "uneaten". This concept was applied to candy and pickles so i could create the system for potential later use, like for now." so when he said that copying the 100$ bill would NEVER make it the same, he meant that certain aspects would be the same, and thus it could be used, but ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE since it is not the original, and thus the 'memory' needed to do the spell is not the 'temporary' caster's memory, but rather a memory that he has copied from someone else, and that is bound to be lost. But having the original 100$, aka the original memory, that means that sooner or later, the spell we become available again, since this memory is the magician's.

    1. You are an idiot. 2. You truly don't have a clue WHO I am and what I do. 3. You missed Pipstickz, for he is ALSO a treasure keeper. 4. Having others partake in what I do was planned before I even became Mur's secretary. 5. Why yes, I am busy, thank you for ever noticing that. However, you fail to also notice that respect amongst people who deserve it is KEY. 6. I have almost a year under my belt. And look at how far I have come. 7. I yell at people for complaining because they complain about the most asanine things. I don't fight-- which obviously is a well known fact, and there fore do not care about such stupid trifles. 8. I am not a mushroom. I am me. I WORSHIP a mushroom. 9. There are reasons why things get delayed and reasons why people do NOT get gifts. The TKs also help. A lot. 10. Before you go on writing about me get your facts right.

Either 1) Mur will assign a land for balance purposes, 2) The activity will remain a capitalistic free-market competition, in which case there should be no guild, or 3) The players with the power will band together to make a defacto monopoly, in which case why should we deny them the rights to set up their own alliance, however and wherever they want? p.s. I voted for MDA as it is a functional fit, very esthetically pleasing, but you could argue lots of ways.... GG is the lab that cooks up new magical things...

The bloodthirsty and/or befuddled noobs leave when they realize there are no explosions or splashes of blood. Those ones never get to the point of experiencing the magic system. I agree with Rhaegar, it's mostly a supply-side and integration issue.

By the way its actually a copy of what a person did for real. he started with one dollar and after a year ended up having a house and a car. Practically, that's almost impossible to reach all the places and find all the hints without being MP5." so, the quest is really interesting and informative for new players, and i'd recommend it for other mp3 too, just dont get upset when you reach the stage at which you'll need just leave it be. i hope Burns wont take it as an offence for me posting his pm. i think next time the quest should be described more precisely, as "a little tutorial-quest" is... at least confusing.

    Curiose
After last batch of Mur's announcements it's clear that there is only one magical item left in the whole realm of MD - it's Curiose the Magic Mushroom. She is widely recognized as the best secretary Mur has ever had, with quality of service so amazing that the Santa Mushroom were recently given two helping elves, by names of apophys and Seigheart, to slow her down a bit with rewards delivery. Children must wait for their Christmas gifts full year - and Curiose could always deliver them within two weeks period - to big and small. Well... to big first, of course. She is a busy person, but also devoted teacher. She can take bours off her full schedule to give a lecture to a noob about:1. how busy she is, 2. how much she hates nagging about some rewards,3. how important is RESPECT,4. how perfect is each and every thing Mur ever did, finished or not.Unfortunately, yours and truly is a noob himself, so some information he knows only from bonfire songs and late night stories... Curiose is considered to be a very good writer; she was the main driving force of Story Night for a long time that were run regularly until a few months ago.I guess she must have been a great fighter of old - she often scorns people who complain about being attacked at MP5: it's an ultimate fighting level after all and those who whine about some minor attacks should probably not be there in the first place.
Have you ever Met Curi? It seems like you have asked people around who know her. Then disregarded as much as possible, linking a couple of those words into new sentences that are complete rubbish. "best secretary mur ever had"? thats totally subjective, amoung the point she isnt a seceratary, and you probably dont remember others that helped mur. "main driving force behind story night" well, i kinda disagree there, since i felt it was running better than inno and pample were dealing with it. She took over and ran it for a while. "I guess she must have been a great fighter of old" Wtf??? Now you base this infomation on "she often scorns people who complain about being attacked at MP5" Which is complete and utter rubbish To conclude, in my opinion, your story and complete and utter garbage, coupled with the apparant agreement of these sentiments above, I dont think this story should count to the "total" if it does i might as well write 20 stories about people, just making stuff up of the top of my head.

    Viscosity

have you ever wondered why you could go all the way from the paper cabin to Fenth's pass with 0 ap, but can't cross Mirand Bell's gate or even go from one location to the other in the Tribunal even with 30 ap? the answer is simple. It is viscosity. First introduced in the announcments on 2011-06-30 07:32:15, Mur said : "NOTICE: This is a presentation of concept. The feature is implemented already but won't be activated till some fixes regarding papercabin/noob area are ready. In the places that it will start to be applied you will see viscosity value different from zero. For now all places have viscosity zero. Viscosity of a location determines the increase or drop in action points cost for moving or using clickables in a location. It is determined by how often that place is visited by yourself or others. Visited more recently/often, the location memory becomes more fluid and fresh and thus the ap cost is less. This "Viscosity" builds up over time and makes long forgotten places even harder accessible. It is possible that the Viscosity will render certain deserted places fully off limits due to their Ap cost if nobody will visit them for a long period of time/ At the same time it could make other locations, that have a natively high Ap cost, easy accessible when when more people go through them. This value and influence is shared by everyone in the same location. This feature is intended to make the edges of the MD world harder to reach, while keeping more popular places with low Ap cost. It also encourages collaborative exploring of places like the Tribunal for example." basically, it says that places visted a lot, will remain at low cost due to their popularity, and places that are irregularly visted will cost a high amount of ap to pass... It contradicts what the market does (more popular, higher price, less popluar, lower price) but as Mur has explained quite well is that :"It also encourages collaborative exploring of places like the Tribunal for example." Not too long ago these 'trips' have begun, where Lone Wolf organized a trip into the heart of the Tribunal (when looking for stones) with quite a few others that are ready to help bring the viscosity down, for frankly, the Tribunal whihc costs 24 ap, without adding viscosity, is a nightmare in it's self, so those who were unlucky enough to go the wrong way *raises hand* have had a terrible time, moving at a pace slower than 1 location change per regeneration period. Of course, the opposite is also true, and as I said, it is now possible to travel from the paper cabin all the way to the armory and back if necessary, without ap. Hopefully, the MD community will soon increase the number of trips into the 'inaccessible' lands, so that viscosity will decrease, and we can have even more freedom in roaming the realm. Current visocsity settings - A player can lower visc in a location once every 1 hour - It is lowered by 4 for each player passing through - Visc increases by 4 every 55 minutes - Max visc a scene can accumulate if unaccessed is +40Ap - Maximum drop in ap cost if many pass through is -40Ap

    Innocence

I have elected to use Keri Hulme's gender-neutral pronouns as Innocence is genderless. An excellent example of them can be found in a novel called Diaspora. "Diaspora focuses in large part on the nature of life and intelligence in a post-human context, and questions the meaning of life and the meaning of desires. If, for instance, the meaning of human life and human desires is bound up with ancestral human biology, then what meaning do lives and desires have, and what serves as the basis of values when biology no longer forms a part of life?" From the Wikipedia article by the same name.

However she still referred to all the people of Winter as "he" and I was looking for a gender netral term and thus the New Zealand author being cited (who also borrowed the terms from someone else). I do agree very few of the classic science fiction writers ever reached the full world building abilities of Le Guin though.

    Innocence

A visit to the MDA library will give the adventurer a chance of meeting one of the more intriguing denizens of the land, an intangible named Innocence. Ve is normally ensconced in a cozy nook by the Librarian and displays as a pearly iridescence dancing in the sunlight streaming through the chancellery windows. Innocence is unfettered from the tugs of time, completely outside the constraints of our three dimensional sight, yet puzzlingly concerned enough about our fleshly forms to offer interactions with us. Ve slides through space to cunningly reform a candle into a fantastic form, untether the dancing flame from its wick, and brand profound tales from long ago onto pages before the wondering gaze of the librarian. Flowing back into ver accustomed corner, ve responds to greetings with unworldly charm and a fey sense of the ridiculous. There is a sense of hidden pain, quickly concealed, that threads through the warp and weave of ver conversations. The alert adventurer may find that questions about the Gatherers and their influence on Innocence laid the groundwork for ver presence here and shepard ver towards a future even ve barely senses. Interactions with ver are apt to help us refine our half formed desires, slake our thirst for knowledge, and leave our minds refreshed and ready for more adventures. Innocence may be intangible but the results of meeting ver are permanent.

    Marvolo

Marvolo is a veteran player in MD who is generally friendly to new players. He started out unrelated to lands or alliances and had no intention to be until he met Khalazdad and so entered Necrovion with a few other and became a key member of the Necrovion Sentinel, however Marvolo left soon after and joined Loreroot but quickly returned after Khalazdad adopted him and made him Prince of the Sand. Over a year after he left for Loreroot once more and joined the (now disbanded) Savelites and gained the power to change the Weather at a whim. After the Savelite were disbanded he joined the Children of the Eclipse, staying a Loreroot citizen and remains there to this day. He is now the Census of Loreroot and thus is responsible for dealing with players who wish for Loreroot Citizenship.

    Sparring Grounds

The Sparring Grounds, located at the Marble Dale Park, is the main training ground for MP3s learing the system. Established by Burns and Shadowseeker (mainly shadowseeker, as Burns says : "I did nothing, I just copied the rules to the signpost "), and maintained by no one, it follows the simple rule : ask before you attack by asking before attacking, that ensures that new MP3s will never suffer extensive damage, as, for example, being attacked with a too-strong ritual when they have one hundred percent of their vitality in their defenisve. The problem (mainly) is that not all people know the rules to follow, and some people know the rules, but simply do not follow them. Since no one is keeping an eye out for these things, if that happens, it just has to be ignored. Other rules there include the one where idle players can be attacked, and that non-idle players can not UNLESS they give their prior acceptance (as to being attacked), which is logical since idle players can't give acceptance, since they're not there. Also, in head's competition, people with a sufficent number of heads are not protected by the rules of the SG, and as the rule says "they can be attacked if they have enough heads that they can be attacked in a sanctuary anyway" Mainly filled with MP3s and some well knonw MP5s ( I usaully see Burns) the SG is the best place for MP3s to hang, given that they learn about the fighting system there, and that they have friendly conversations with people of the same MP level as themselves, and that they get free online help (not via pm, but directly via chat) that way from the on-looking MP5s

She can take bours off her full schedule to give a lecture to a noob about: 1. how busy she is, 2. how much she hates nagging about some rewards, 3. how important is RESPECT, 4. how perfect is each and every thing Mur ever did, finished or not. Unfortunately, yours and truly is a noob himself, so some information he knows only from bonfire songs and late night stories... Curiose is considered to be a very good writer; she was the main driving force of Story Night for a long time that were run regularly until a few months ago. I guess she must have been a great fighter of old - she often scorns people who complain about being attacked at MP5: it's an ultimate fighting level after all and those who whine about some minor attacks should probably not be there in the first place.
