Sparring Grounds

Actually for me it has nothing to do with power. I never became a dojo staff member, but I used to spend a lot of time there to help out. Indeed at one point, before Jazira arrived I was often the only 'dojo'(even though officially I wasn't) person there. I have told you why I won't stand around there now, before. Under your current rules anyone can walk by and mash me and repeatedly so if they feel like it. Im not interested in any response along the lines of 'set a better def rit'. I simply don't see the reasoning or logic in being a target for people while trying to do a service. Im sorry if you think this seems selfish or silly. I have no issue with people attacking me, but I really don't see the point in having a situation where people can decide (and they will) 'hey, I'll pop over to the sparring grounds and hammer Firs' every 25 mins. The fact is, for me fighting is not a big part of MD, but neither is stat loss. Because I don't fight as much as others it simply means that Im going to be heading for stat loss because I choose to try and help. Call me old fashioned, an idiot, lazy or whatever you want, but that is the way that I see it. Im not looking for any special powers, but if you can tell me that people won't start attacking me and hammering away at me then I will go there and help.

    Encouraging Others To Find Bugs

I know for a fact that there has been black market trading of bugs, of that there is no doubt in my mind. It was almost wide-spread among veterans for a while. Is that wrong or right? I'm not sure it's either, it just was. However, not one person ever went public and put an advertisement offering to pay for others to find bugs. That was exclusively for Mur, and with good reason. So now, you have created a sticky situation, Fenrir. While it was done underground, Mur could allow it to happen because in truth it increased the safety of the community by finding bugs and then reporting them. Now, however, when it is out in the open and submitted to poll no less, there is no doubt in my mind that you have forced him to provide a stance on the issue. Furthermore, there is no other possible stance for him to take besides that this is not okay. Encouraging this kind of behavior outright allows it to get far out of hand, and one thing follows another. Congratulations. By putting this out to the open, you have limited the free reign of bug finders and traders, and nobody will ever consider finding a bug for you (they might have, if done in private). Awi

Technicalities and Explanations: i decided to finally release the quest, since "completing" it as originally planned would mean writing half a novel of narrative and double the amount of tasks. i guess neither you nor i have that much time instead it will be a potentially short, potentially different kind of quest. while the tasks themself are classic, the narrative is sorta unusual and breaks with most paradigms. bear with it (you might actually enjoy it). while most ideas are mundane or even banal, they might spark some interesting trains of thought if you let them. if you think you have a good reason, you may converse with your "inner voice" (sending me a pm about a particular thought in this quest), potentially altering your journey completely. if you see something like (3/4/5) those values are for mp3 / mp4 / mp5 respectively. its not a first in = first win quest. you will have enough time to think, no need to rush. try to follow the path of kings if you can, even if it's just for a few steps. Common Sense: you may participate with one account per player. if you are asked to help, please give very enigmatic hints or none at all. WP distribution: in case of many solvers, steps on the path of kings will determine the WP winners. PM me ingame to initiate the quest, i can usually be found at Golden Globe Gazebo interior. enjoy! [time for searching is simulated by delay. if presented with choices, pm me your choice. you will not have to interact with rp items or to enter remote places]

    Sparring Grounds

The point about sanc is moot. I can't stay at the Sparring grounds and help without being attacked. I can go to a Sanc and not be attacked and not help. I can be attacked anywhere else in MD, but I also don't have to stand in the one spot and get picked off. To work at the sparring grounds I would actively have to do that. So therefore I cannot just avoid attackers. This is the whole point. Staff there are effectively sitting ducks. And you actually did answer with a 'set up a stronger rit' response. There is already a topic about how certain people win fights with zero rounds etc. YOu have to realise that there are some rits that are just hard if not impossible to stop. Not everyone has 6 drachs or 3 rustgolds or crap loads of tokens. Against these people most don't have a snowballs chance in hell. Some of these people are also the very ones that will beat on you repeatedly as much as they can. It would seem a simple enough matter to me to ask for staff members to be not targetted while at the Sparring grounds. Its only one location in MD and only of use to them while they are there. Otherwise I feel that myself and other people will simply avoid it and stick to places like GGG to help out at. It just takes a rule that people would be willing to observe, you don't even have to have a spell or anything.

    Creative Punishment

First of all, this system propsed here could be easly abused. How? You dont like how someone is behaving, you report it, you make sure that you are in good relationships with jury, judge and hey, even a lawyer etc. and i predict this or similar will happen in course of time. Why? That is simple, because human being is manipulative and may it pretend to be "oh-so-good-and-honest" it will always look for its best interest, may it be the game or rl. Look just at how much injustice is happening in rl trials. Does anybody want to be taken responsible to bring that in here also? I think that there is a lot of people here that would love to have a chance and get a seat in jury, they might not admit it aloud or maybe even not to themself, but they are. The second thing is, that there is no objectivity even if you try to reach it. You have feelings and with having them, pof, the objectivity transforms into holy smoke. You hear this, you hear that, you read this, you read that and voila, you form an opinion. You might think it is based on facts but in reality is not. You will lean to the side that "suits you best". The third thing... You would take away from people to have characters that they want to have and that is repression. Yes, again something that we realy dont like in rl, right, well at least if we are not the ones that get repressed, if it is other way around some would or care less or even be those who repress. I understand that some characters in game might annoy you, make you mad and so on but at same time some other people might like them for what they are. And again... do you want to play in a sandbox where only those who behave to your standards exist or would you like to chalenge yourself and try to co-exists, maybe even see them "oh-that-so-popular-light" in non-repressing manner? I would prefer the second. So how to solve this? Quite easy actualy... If someone is "rp-raped", well, we do have jail and if the prof exists great, send it there but dont let him/her rot away. "Hire" some prison guards, offer psychologist to find the problem in that specific character etc. Or lets say the "rp-smootching" that sisterhood does... Some of people out there dont like it (sorry "sisters") and if someone doesnt want to be "rp-smooched" and he is... well, then the person that "rp-smootched" him did also sexual offence! What about that, eh? Since "rp-rape" is not allowed (I am NOT tolerating it and am against it also, before you get confused) then this should be dealed with also, or are we looking only in one side. It is obvious example of duality. And now, since none of "you" pointed this out, do you realy think that any of you would be suitable for being a jury or a judge? I dont think so, sorry. If someones char is mentaly ill, hey, put up a real sanatory with so-called medical staff to take care for that char. I bet there are some of us out there that are interested in psychology, not necesseraly by occupation, and would find "fun" with trying to handle the situation. I am not blaming or pointing out at anybody in here, I am meerly using this as an example. But again, I dont believe that could be done withing comunity itself and Mur would have to step in probably. Anyhow, that is my opinion on the matter. Thank you. Edited for the second time to add this: I am talking here in general, I am not pointing fingers at anybody and I hope you can deal with it even if you dont agree with what I have just written.

    Encouraging Others To Find Bugs

My opinion, based on the thread title only: 1. Yes, it is acceptable to encourage people to find bugs an report it so it can be fixed. Those who seek loopholes will do so with or without reward (as they will reward themselves mostly by abusing it), and I think the current system with Mur offering bounties for bug/exploit reports is a good one. It's better to have those with the abilities working with us, not against us. This is in the context of how bug bounties are handled in MD, though. I would not encourage other people to encourage others to find bugs and report it to them. There is already an official bounty from Mur, we don't need extra personal benefactors. 2. Yes, I don't mind sharing bugs with others in order to learn more about it. BUT, only if I cannot analyze the cause by myself, and I will only share it with those I know I can trust AND have dealt with bug reports professionally before, not just share it with anyone for the sake of testing. If I have sufficient confidence that I know what causes it, I might ask some help to confirm that suspicion so I can report it to Mur right away, but otherwise it is report first, then more testing if Mur hasn't responded yet. And a clarification, this means I don't agree with players giving personal rewards for others to find bugs and report it to them. Bugs should be reported to Mur directly once you've found out what is causing it. There is no need to share it with others if you already understand the cause and how to use the bug.

    Auctions

How is this different to a normal auction? Those that can put forward the most money will of course win in the auction. It is not a flaw of the auction that you cannot afford bidding. I think it is a great initiative and should be savoured. That which possibly makes it seem unfair is the high prices the opening bids started at, this was of course a strategic move to eliminate opposition early on, but I feel it was too early too quickly. The minimum starting bid is 1 silver, I would have liked to see it start from that. I know this was a trial run, but I feel 3 items is too little, and they should be auctioned off sequentially rather than all at once. There are people who can pay ridiculous prices for the items, the question is if they are willing to do so. In my experience the objective of the bidder is to aim to spend as little as possible to gain as much as they can (unless of course if for example it is a fundraising auction) Having more items means those who want to spend extremely high prices, can do so, but it gives those who are unable or unwilling to spend extreme amount a chance compete. What I do see as a flaw of the auction is the variable valuation. In a noraml auction the difference between $1 and $10 is clear cut. Here it is a judgemental thing where every person values items differently, and it is not clear what the higher bid might be (not in all cases, but I do see a few) I would like to see the current accepted highest bid updated on ocasion so we know where it stands and can compare to previous bids so we get some indication as to what is considered more valuable.

Personally...I feel a bit annoyed and I'm pretty disappointed you've chosen to post that comment, especially taking into consideration the other participants. Bad form.
nah, it's your contest mate, you can do whatever you please, it's not like you _have_ to take into account public opinion. i offer my apologies to any of the winners (and other contestants) annoyed by my comment, as it was not my intention to belittle others' submissions (which i thoroughly enjoyed), just voicing my opinion on the referee-ing, in the sacred tradition of spectator games, no need to get wound up about it. as to "bad form", i suppose copying others' submissions in style or even content wouldn't count as such? far from me to go out yelling "j'accuse!", but still, going all eurovision on the contest was quite disappointing. no worries, next year i'll just get some hair-styling tips from Ledah, and get a bigger crowd to shout for me, i'm sure that'll help immensely if i don't befriend the judges!

    Brotherhood

What is so bad about blurting out ideas? With some help this can work. I don't have any accomplishments yet? If so this will be my first one. Most good ideas start with someone blurting out an idea. This one may just be blurted out too suun.

You have no idea, Nor any real accomplishments in MD currently, and want to form something that, would take a LOT of organisation. How do you expect to accomplish this? You have no ideas and cannot expect other people to try and do something like this. And also, where does this "brotherhood" fit into MD? If you look at the Sisterhood, that i personally think is ok... sorta, it has taken a lot of work to make their group, and they actually had goals and people did things. To me this just looks like you have just had an idea, and blurted it out, without thinking about the work you would need to put into it.
Why all our suggestions imply nudity? Or similar things?
My suggestion is entirely against nudity! If you read it the way my character reads it of course... which leads me to the point: nudity is funny. Seriously, have you looked at a naked human? The idea that the feet, the ankles and the spine have to carry their burden is quite comical. For more serious things to do, I dno. Women rights have been mentioned, but I don't think that fits into MD. The game itself doesn't differentiate between genders, and the way people treat others is set to fantasy standards. Imagine a succubus complaining men treating her like a object...

No you are not. You are using this as an opportunity to trash me, as you do with any opportunity. I have never been rude to you(been honest but not rude) and I doubt I deserve this kind of attitude from you. This topic has little to do with the topic. It may have originated because of it, but the questions are not in reaction to my topic, but to a conversation I had with Chewett. Now, please, stop with the attitude and get back on topic, please. Edit: Not sure why you felt that this should go in Offtopic, when it was Ontopic before you got your hands on it. There were two questions, and each with two answers. Therefore... it should belong in the Questions and Answers of the forum because the Q&A is about MD. Therefore, not off topic.
well, since this was at least partly inspired by your alt overhearing me and burns i'll answer: i think it should be encouraged to understand the mechanics as good as one can. harmless bugs of today are the hidden features of tomorrow if one finds a way to ab/use a known bug excessively it'll get fixed and you have a chance for the bounty. sounds like win - win to me. in this special case i asked burns to help me test something with empty rits, since he knew the basics of it already and can be trusted not to go wild had we found something. i am not saying it's fine to randomly spread knowledge of bugs, but exploring the various means on how a known bug can be applied is useful research.
Don't know what you are talking about, but okay... I do not have alts, nor do I approve of them.
Fenrir, it is BAD to ask people to find bugs, report them to you for a creature and after you had fun with the bugs come like a saint to Mur and explain the bug.
I have no idea what makes you think I would take credit for reporting the bug. Nor why you constantly have to make it look like I kiss your husbands "behind". I would appreciate it if you would stop. I don't insinuate things about you, I don't like it when you do it to me. Chewett, please remove your post. I want this to be as unbiased as possible from your part. I don't need you influencing the results. Edit: Your PS, Akasha, is unclear... What do you mean?

Well, the protective part I once had, was simple for me. Just get so strong that you usually don't lose the fights, or don't mind losing. Perhaps that is due to some arrogance that i built up from almost never getting attacked anymore, but I tend to believe it's possible at least to improve to the point where you can withstand some of the strongest people. Setting a simple, strong ritual that can even beat the crap out of drachorn rituals often enough is easy. Requires one claw3 creature and some more birds. Or just go and adapt the BP method, though that won't work against drachorns. I even added a rule that the helpers were supposed to be protected to a certain degree, but that didn't work out well. As for mp5, I can understand why people want to be protected from attacks..but in the end, isn't it also that MP5 is the "veteran" stage or should be if you asked me, and once people wish a truly safe haven they could go to sancs? And..if people really were to wish that, why did I meet so little resistance? I can understand them being frustrated and all, but if the old dojo staff would have protested in unison, and gathered support I would understand it and may not have attempted to take over. But..they didn't do much.

    Sparring Grounds

Mm..firs. As I said, the stronger rit..I even pointed out the ritual that actually does work. I tested it. Guaranteed, it's winning chances are lower than 50% often enough, but still provides a decent chance. The BP version also isn't bad either. Or imperials. Given, they stand no chance vs 4 or 5 rusts, but against anything less they work. And, if you want to go extreme, you can just kill off all your creats and watch as nobody can attack you literally. I just didn't want to recruit using such a rule, nor even suggest it, as it didn't seem befitting to it. I can understand that you'd dislike the fact of staying in one place and effectively farming up losses. Still, with the proper rit, there's still ways of winning, even if smaller than theirs. I'm unsure what your current ritual is you have in def, but I suggest you try my suggestion out one day. Since I don't want this to end up in a discussion as to what people without drachorns can do against those without, I won't say more in this regard. As for the rule of helpers. I added one, but I couldn't guarantee it being upheld. That's why I formulated it in a way which asks for less attacks if possible, but not a forced one. And even then, if too many were staff, then there would be "lots of MP5 at SG unattackable". And Firs..then, if it gets out of hand, make a list? If you truly do believe a community related project like this works, then talking with the attackers should help as well. But that in itself would differ from the ideals of the SG as well, partially at least. To avoid this dicussion altogether I also tried to recruit amongst mp3/4, but it's hard to grab a hold of some of them. Within their category fights are still different, mainly. And this is where I am to blame, since I couldn't keep up a constant renewal.
